Pituitary Tumor

We have just come back from the dr's for M. She is being referred to an endocrinologist for a possible pituitary tumor. Between this and A's GHD they want me to go to a genetic counselor for possible risk factors for the other children. Has anyone had any experience with this?

ack! I was in a panic when I typed this thread starter and just saw my misspelled title. How do I change it to the correct spelling so I dont look like a complete idiot?

Sorry no advice- just a looky loo wondering what symptoms warranted suspicion of a pituitary tumor.

As for the editing issue... Ok there should be a colored "edit" button next to the "quote" button in the right hand corner of your post. When you click on the edit button a window will pop up with what you wrote. Then there will be another button in the bottom right hand corner that says "Go Advanced". I think if you are the author of the thread you can edit the title from there.

there should be an edit button down in the bottom right corner of each post I think. like near the quote function I think.

I don't have anything to offer about the tumor issue but big hugs, that's scary to have to go through.

yeh, the edit button is right next to quote and it has a pair of scissors on it and says "edit."

thank you so much I fixed the title!

Here is what is going on with M.

About a month and a half ago she had a cyst develop on her left breast just beneath the nipple. We have been going to the breast center for treatment. We had our "last" appointment and she got a clean bill of health. The next morning she wakes up and the cyst is back, as big as ever. The breast center told us we had to go back to the dr that originally referred us to them to get M started back on antibiotics and that we could go from there. So while we are there I ask our dr to look at a rash that I had noticed under M's armpit. She looks then looks at the back of M's neck and says that it is acanthosis nigricans which shows that she has developed insulin resistance and is at risk for diabetes. She then takes this thoughtful pause and starts examining M's medical records more closely and asks us more questions.

Starting about a year ago M was complaining of her ankles and knees swelling and hurting but after several attempts at figuring out what was going on we just kind of chalked it up to her growing so rapidly. She is almost 13 and is now up to 5'8".

She started her period early and has very difficult menstrual cycles.

She has been having uncontrolled headaches for several months now. I am a migraine sufferer so this did not cause alarm in and of itself.

She has always sweated an extreme amount and has had horrible body odor for several years that does not go away completely with extra diligent hygiene.

She has excess hair growth on her stomach.

There was several other risk factors as well but I cant think of them at the moment. From what I gather any one of these by themselves is not cause for concern but when they are put all together...

We go for screening tomorrow and are supposed to be getting worked into the endocrinologist schedule by Friday. I am scared but M seems to be completely relaxed about it. She looked up the surgery for removal of a pituitary tumor on youtube! Her response? "Hmmm, that really doesn't look that bad." M is an amazing young lady.

Just bumping this up. I have been trying to research this as best I can but all the info seems to be concerning adults. That children can also have this seems to be just a side note in most things I am reading. Hoping someone out there will have some experience in pediatric pituitary tumors.
