Need a loose leaf alternative to Lipton's.

DH enjoys a cup of tea daily. Right now he's using Lipton's but is interested in a better quality, loose leaf alternative. Any recommendations?

oh my gosh, where to begin???

does he prefer black, green, oolong, herbal, rooibos?

does he like flavors (fruity, spicy, etc)?

is there a tea shop nearby? he can sniff the varieties and taste a few to see what grabs him

it's also important to brew the leaves properly; each tea has its own requirements for time, temp, quantity, etc.

enjoy the adventure!!

Well, he wants something similar in flavor to the Lipton's. I have other herbs I brew for myself, nettles, alfalfa, etc. but they're not what he's looking for.

Is there something like Lipton's but loose?

We don't have a tea shop nearby, I'm putting in a bulk order to MRH and wanted to include some for him.

what kind of Liptons is he drinking? just the regular black tea? if so, he might enjoy a keemun or an English or Irish breakfast; those are hearty teas, so don't overbrew them

does the place you're ordering from offer smaller bags? maybe you could get a sampler

I agree with the suggestion of the various "breakfast" teas, they tend to be mostly basic black tea with not too much else going on. I'm not sure what you have available but ask if they have any basic ceylon-type black teas.

If he'd like something with a bit more flavour/scent perhaps have him try earl grey to see if he likes it (should be able to get it at any grocery store, though it may not be the best quality). It's black tea with oil of bergamot added to it.

I looked at the website that you are ordering from. I would try either the Assam, Ceylon or Darjeeling. They are all plain black teas. If you click on "Learn More", I see that it gives brewing times for each tea, which is helpful.

Yes a breakfast tea would be good. Did you know that if you use MDC's link to MRH that they will give 10% of your order back to MDC? Use the link up on the left under the moderator of the month pic.
The link says: Buy Herbs
