Does my 7 month old need a bedtime? - Page 2

post #21 of 27
We don't have a bedtime. My DS is also 7 months old.
That being said, I don't have to get up by a certain time normally, since I stay at home. If I try to get DS to go to sleep when he's just not ready it's a huge struggle

Thanks for all the great replies!

For those of you who do have a bedtime;
What do you mean you "put your LO down at whatever time"? I don't understand. Do you just get into bed with them and wait till they fall asleep? That just sounds harder for Mom! Aren't you bored/frustrated just laying there waiting?

I lay down with my babe while she nurses to sleep then i pop off and go about my business. It usually only takes about 10-15 minutes but i wait another 10 or so before i get up.

My first went to sleep at 8pm starting at birth. When the time changed for fall, it switched to 7, and it's never changed.

When #2 was born, he just naturally fell into the rhythm of our evenings targeted towards a 7pm bedtime. I didn't do much, but that's just the way our days were structured (#1 was 2 years old when #2 was born). He's always gone to bed at 7 as well.

I admit that I really like the early bedtimes, cause dh and I go to bed around 9! My kids get up between 6 and 7 no matter when they go to bed (even if it's vacation, and they are up until 11), so it's just a matter of them getting enough sleep. I sort of wish I had the kind of kids that would sleep late if you kept them up late. Alas, those aren't my kids.

My daughter just turned 4 in November. Since January she has had a bedtime of 8-8.30pm depending on what our day has been like. sometimes we do it earlier, sometimes a little later. Before then, we did not really NEED a bedtime, yknow. We just went with the flow, followed her cues. We used to have a family bed time where we would all go to bed, and I would feed to sleep while watching TV (in the bedroom). It's just the way it worked for us.

Now that she goes to preschool, has regular activies each day, we do the bedtime routine. At 7months, it's probably not that much of a pressing issue unless you are going to work, or have set routines to fulfil the next day.

We have a short bedtime routine--bath or face/hand washing, massage, diaper change, jammies, bed, nursing. Sometimes DS falls asleep nursing. If not, I rock him and sing to him until he falls asleep. When the timing is good, he's out in less than 5 mins.

Occasionally I experiment with lying there until he falls asleep, but have never been patient enough for it to work.
