Could I remove outside of Kushies AIO and use a g-diaper 'cover'?

Theoretically-- would this act enough as a waterproof cover, or is their liner important? I have 10 WELL used kushies AIO's I was given, and I was going to remove all the PUL outer, since it's in horrible condition, and recover them.

Then I was grocery shopping the other day and fell in love with the trimness or the g-diaper cover (don't care for the flushable part). And I'm wondering if this would be plausible? I could still take off the ugly PUL, but I wouldn't have to worry about recovering the diaper, because the g-diaper would cover the ugly look of it, and be waterproof.

My other option is recovering the kushies with either new PUL, or fleece. And while my MIL (who was going to help me) is a great seamstress, I am definately not, and would love not to have to resew 10 dipes.

That is-- hopefully. Any thoughts?

Not sure why you would want to go to all that trouble!
gdiapers are really expensive. Why not get a dozen prefolds and 2 inexpensive covers?

No, I don't think the idea will work at all (or I'm completely misunderstanding). The gdiaper cover, the "cute" part, isn't waterproof...unless they've totally changed designs in the past few months. The gdiaper cover is just fabric, with a plastic insert that snaps into the cover. The plastic insert is the waterproof part. If you LOVE the way the gdiaper looks, you can always just use the cotton part of the Kushies diaper as an insert for the gdipe. Or you can keep the Kushies whole, and just put the gdiaper cover on over the Kushies. Personally, I think there are a ton of better options for the price of the gdipe, but that's a whole other ball of wax.

I found g-diaper covers for $12. I was assuming they came with the plastic insert, but now I'm not sure. I just know I'm not interested in the flushable part of it.

I'm trying to remember back to the one I pulled out of the box, because it felt like it was *slightly* waterproof on the inside layer, but i don't remember seeing snaps.

But anyways- using the cotton part of the kushies as an 'insert' is I guess what I was looking to do. I've removed the PUL from one (as a test) and I've got all the layers surged together now. But I didn't know if it would be absorbant enough without the PUL cover.

And yes-- the g-diaper is SOOOOO purely cuteness for me. It just looks so much trimmer than any other cover I've found. I suppose I could keep the outer on, and use the g-dipe cover. I'd have to experiment, as my primary concern is making sure the cracked PUL isn't rubbing on baby.

I just went back and checked pictures, and found one of an unsnapper liner. No... that wasn't in the dipe I pulled out of the box. I wonder how much more bulky it would make the diaper. Hmmmm.

So... any ideas for a very trim cover like this one then? Everything I find seems to be so bulky.

Oh also, our main stash will be pockets, but I had these kushies given to me, and they'd be nice as a cheap extra backup stash, as well as being good for the smaller size, since I haven't found many one size dipes I like.

there is no "cover" for a g diaper like what you are used to with cloth diapers. Thats why they aren't really cloth diapers at all, I used the gdiapers for my son's first month, it kind of introduced me into the world of cloth diapering. it is a cloth piece, with a water proof snap in pouch, and you lay a soaker type of material (flushable or not) into the water proof pouch. so in theory, if you like the look of the gdiaper you could just lay a soaker or aio insert into the gdiaper pouch... hope that made sense! lol and they are cute i have to admit.

Yeah... that's what I'm realizing now. Which is ok, still. I've only held the outer part without the snap in liner. Does the liner make it feel more bulky (not taking into account whatever stuffing you use), or is it still pretty trim?

I'd essentially be using the kushies as a soaker really, I guess would be the better way to describe it.

yeah it is trim.. last night I used my bum genius insert and a terry soaker in the inner liner, topped it with a fleece liner and it was perfect!.. you gave me this idea.. so thank you!! i've been having night time diapering issues!
