do you use cloth wipes as face/hand wipes too?

before my babies were born I made about 75 cloth wipes in anticipation of using them for diapering and/ or hand and face wipes too. My mom is here visiting and when I asked her to grab a wipe to wipe one of their noses, she freaked out and went on and on about how gross it is to use a diaper wipe on their faces.

I see nothing wrong with it because they are rinsed 2x before they are washed in an extra long hot water cycle with 2 more rinse cycles so I'm thinking that everything that would be on them from diapering would be off by then. She's convinced that there is still traces of "whatever" left after washing that is going to get all over their faces and hands.

So, do you use cloth wipes as face/ hand wipes too, or am I just disgusting?

I'm not currently using cloth wipes but I would do this. They're clean. Clean is clean imo.

not gross to me...if your diaper laundry smells 'fresh' -not like poo- it is clean to me...besides, most people wash their underwear with towels and such...or use public laundry...it's all the same to me.

If my washer isn't getting them clean enough to use to wipe up other body parts, then it's not getting them clean enough to use on butts either. That's how I look at it

I did use the same wipes for everything. Recently though, my daughter came down with her first cold, and coincidentally during the same week, I discovered how amazingly soft a brand of wipes were. I started to keep a package of those wipes separate so that I could wipe her nose with them, and now that she's over her cold, I still prefer the soft wipes for her face and hands. Just for soft factor, not because the other wipes aren't "clean."

For the first 6 weeks or so, I washed my babes clothes with her diapers, and my mom freaked out about that... I stopped doing the washing together because I felt the clothes were getting TOO vigorous and rough a cleansing with the extending cloth wash routine!

a wipe is a wipe. we use them to wipe hands, tushies, faces, or whatever part needs a wipe.

I'll admit: we had separate colors for "kiester" and "everything else." Once DD was out of diapers, we ended up throwing out the "everything else" cloths because they were super-stained (they were yellow) and now used the "keister" cloths (blue) for everything else cloths.

Honestly, part of it was because of the "ew" factor, but most of it was because we didn't use fabric softener with our diapers/wipes (of course) and I found them too darn rough and scratchy on our sensitive facial skin, especially when air-dried. I much preferred the nice, Downy-soft yellow cloths washed with our clothes (in cold water, etc.) for cleaning up spit-up and lunch messes.

pretty much exactly what I was going to say.

I keep a stash of Thirsties (supersoft!) Fab Wipes for face/hands/washcloths that is separate from my stash of regular terry and flannel butt wipes.

It's mostly for the soft factor though. I kind of agree that clean is clean.

Also DH and the nanny tend to just grab a butt wipe when they need a wipe bc there are so many more of them, so in practice the baby frequently gets her face wiped with a (clean) butt wipe. She hasn't suffered any harm from it that I can see.

Yup, I use them for everything, I figure they are washed and clean.

yep, we use them for everything here too. Also our prefolds! I used to sleep with a prefold over my boobs at night because I leaked so much.

i have green wash cloths for kitchen use and white for bathroom use.

We don't use family cloth, but dd has cloth wipes and I use them when I need to blow my nose or wipe her face off. They are great for when I have a cold- none of that nasty paper stuff for my nose!

You're not gross. We do the same thing. And since our two older boys sit on each others' heads while naked, I don't think it makes a difference!

I preferred different ones, mostly because I liked to have larger ones for hands and faces and smaller ones for bottoms.

I see no problems with using the same ones, as a PP said if they are not clean enough after washing to use on faces then they are not clean enough at all.

I use them for all kinds of things too. I definately use them on noses, I use them for MY nose Much much softer than a kleenex.

Thanks for the responses, everyone!!

I love my wipes. 1/2 of them are one side flannel, one side terry cloth and the other 1/2 are double sided flannel. They are so soft and really work well for anything.

Not 20 minutes after I originally posted this question did I catch my mom using a PREFOLD as a nose wipe ROFL! I called her on it so fast! Are you kidding me? You won't use a wipe, that hardly gets anything on it, on their hands and faces but you will use a prefold that is SOAKED in pee and poop on a regular basis on their noses? Made me laugh so hard. So yes, she changed her mind. I think she was just looking to pick a fight
