Anyone fully vaccinated from mumps receives two doses of the vaccine, according to the CDC. Of the New Jersey cases, 77 percent were vaccinated, Terjesen said.

Yeah, this portion of the MMR vaccine is not that effective. It is aurgued that the vaccine is better than no vaccine. However I am not sure. Older boys/men are getting the mumps, and that age group is more at risk for complications.

Mumps Vaccine: Perceptions and Emerging Realities

And it is problematic that you need the whole MMR if you require a 3rd dose of the mumps vaccine.

I had the two MMR and got mumps at like 11ish(can't remember the exact year). My last MMR was the booster at 6 years old.

Same here. I got two doses and got it around age 10 along with my best friend.

I was just reading an article on the same topic:

I live in NJ and I had mumps last summer. I had my last MMR dose twenty years ago, when I started high school. The medical professionals I encountered insisted I must be misremembering or lying about that, swearing I must not have been vaxed, because they insisted if I had been, I wouldn't have had mumps.

I had WC and I was fully vaxed. Vaxes fail sometimes.

I think i had mumps when i was about 19 (almost 8 years ago). it was over summer break in college... and the doctors wouldn't diagnose me with it (i think because of my vax status)... but all the symptoms were there. i was living in the tri-state area at the time. I've been kind of wanting to get my titers tested just to see what comes up!

I found this an interesting commentary on giving a third dose of MMR to prevent the spread of mumps by Inside Vaccines.

“Just because you need a third dose doesn’t mean the two dose schedule is having issues or anything”

Today, in 2010, the CDC spokesperson is saying that the mumps vaccine is 90 to 95% effective. If doubly mumps-vaccinated people are transmitting mumps from vaccinated person to vaccinated person to vaccinated person, how is the mumps vaccine considered to be 90-95% effective? How is herd immunity functioning here?

Nobody in my area had the MMR, so we all got mumps when we were in 4th grade. All of us recovered just fine, in fact my elementary school was closed down cause all of us had it... The pain was creepy, but two weeks off of school was AWESOME. Watching all the TV I wanted with ice cream? Hell it was FUN!

another argument that all we need is more vaccination to control mumps, etc.

they just don't give up, do they?

I do not show mumps immunity when titered. I haven't gotten mumps yet, and I am now religiously opposed to the practice of vaccination. I would imagine that if all adults who were fully vaccinated on schedule were to get their titers drawn, there would be a large percentage of people without immunity.
