If you drank coffee while pregnant... - Page 2

I've been worried about this since I had hardly any caffeine with DS, who is pretty mellow, but I've been drinking a 1/2 cup a day with this LO. Your stories are helping me rest easier!

I drank lots of (caffienated) tea while pregnant with DD. She was very active in the womb and has continued to be very active, physical & demanding, but she's usually very cheerful, so I don't know if she qualifies as "high needs." Also, I continued to drink caffiene while nursing her, and I think that didn't help her sleep.

I'm cutting back more for this pregnancy. We'll see how it goes.

I have had about one cup per day (once in a while I will have a second) during all my pgs. Dd1 is a very spirited, intense girl, while dd2 is very mellow by comparison. I don't think the caffeine had anything to do with it.

I drank coffee with both pregnancies and had two very spirited kids. However, I don't tie it to the coffee. More probably that DH and I are pretty spirited ourselves, lol.

I would think that a kid's current caffeine (or sugar) consumption would be much more likely to lead to high-spiritedness than mama's consumption in-utero. I drank coffee throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding, and my daughter was actually a very laid-back baby. I think she became spirited as a toddler/preschooler, but then when we're around other kids I think she's not really particularly high-energy by comparison. So I'd say it didn't correlate in our case.

2 caffeinated pregnancies, 2 mega-mellow babies here.

Funny I was just thinking about this today.
DS is super active and I did drink a lot of coffee before I found out I was pregnant with him (I was soooooooo tired). and then moderate consumption throughout my pregnancy 1-2 cups a day. Interestingly I worked out quite a bit and listened to heavy rock music. We always joked that that was what did it.
Then again I am a generally a super active person, so perhaps it's genetic.

Drank it during my last pregnancy and during this one - but only one cup a day or every other day. I switch it up with Green Tea or Health Pregnancy tea. DS is a very laid back, loving little guy. He's got his moments of going crazy, but that's just a pre-schooler for ya.

I drank some coffee with all of my kids and they all have different personalities. I don't link any of it to caffeine.

Although I have read studies that say babies of moms who eat chocolate are happier!

Mmm... I'm drinking hot chocolate right now, and it's working for me. I hope it's working for him/her

First pregnancy I didn't have any and my oldest is a really calm guy. Relaxed baby, relaxed 4 year old (as 4 year olds go). I had some coffee with my second, he wasn't really high needs, but not as relaxed as DS1. He's much more of a mischief monkey too. This pregnancy, I can barely think of coffee without feeling yucky. I have had tea though, but it's only recently that I've been able to drink it again.

With my ds, I ate tons of fresh fruits, drank no soda at all until the 7th month, and then only VERY rarely. I did eat sushi, but I avoided processed foods, food coloring etc all the way until he started solid foods, since he was nursing. He is very, very spirited, did not STTN, ever, until we nightweaned at 15 months, has food sensitivities and is getting evaluated for some issues that might be beyond "typical" 2 year old stuff.

With dd, I have had what I'd consider a horrible diet the entire pregnancy (I mean REALLY bad)....food coloring, processed crap, etc and I finally gave up on avoiding caffeine at around 5 months. The midwife says she is literally the most active baby she has seen but I don't know if it's the diet I had esp in the early months when we couldn't choose our own food (food bank stuff) or if I just produce hyper kids lol. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

i had two horrible hyperemesis pregnancies, and caffiene helped the nausea so i drank plenty. son number one is NOT CALM AT ALL, since birth. son number two is the calmest, happiest baby i have ever seen and sleeps really well. i drink coffee while nursing, too.

With dd I drank about 2 cups of regular coffee a day. She was really active before and after birth. She was a non-sleeper, but otherwise a sweet very easy baby.
This lo we'll see. I had a hard time cutting back on the coffee in the first 4 months. I've got it more or less under control now.

I'm more interested in knowing if coffee consumption prevents newborns from overreacting when mom's drink coffee while breastfeeding.
