Cavities, now?

The girls (ages 7, 5, & 3) had a dental appt. last week. Both older girls each had 2 cavities, the youngest had 1. This is really odd, since this is the first time any kids have had any, and the oldest is 16. We've been going to the same office, but the previous dentist retired, so this was the first time seeing the new one.

DH & I both feel this is really odd that the kids have had great teeth til now, when this new dentist started (which we both don't like, BTW). We are looking to get a second opinion too. The girls have never complained about their teeth, and we're not sure if they should get fixed since they are baby teeth.

We always got compliments on what great teeth our family has. We haven't done anything different that would've caused cavitites. They brush twice a day. Are we right to be surprised about this, and cautious about getting them fixed? Are baby teeth worth fixing?

I think if you don't trust the dentist you should definitely get a second opinion.

My dd had her first dentist appointment today (she has gone one time prior after a fall). We were told she has one small spot of decay on one of her back molars and that it would be best to address this now because it is one of the molars that she would lose LAST (around 10 or 11 he said). We will be getting it sealed to try to prevent further decay on it. I really like our dentist also though and trust his judgement.
