Anyone use a Scootababy carrier? Or can you suggest a good hip carry?

Hi - has anyone here used a Scootababy carrier for a hip carry? How is it? Do you like it? I'm thinking of getting it but its a little $$ so I thought I'd ask first. My DS is 8.5 months and 22 lbs and I need something for a good hip carry - I hate the ring sling for that, it drives me bonkers.

If not or you didn't like it, can you suggest a good pouch sling that's good for a hip carry?

Thanks!!

well I see you went for a pouch but I'll say that I've a few friends that have tried out a Scootababy (our local AP group has one in our Babywearing Road Show) and just about anyone who's tried it has gone an purchased one for themselves.

That's really good to know! if I don't like the Hotsling, then I'm definitely going to order the Scootababy. As the hotsling was only $18, I figured I should give it a shot before dropping $120 on the Scootababy . . .

Thanks for the info!!

I have a Scootababy but I rarely use it. It would be excellent if I had a lot of walking to do and needed both hands and did not want to take my lo in and out. It is extremely comfortable and truly hands free.

I have a tendency to keep the carrier on my body while I pop my children in and out as needed so the Scootababy is a little bulky to keep on with no one in it. I used it through an airport once which was fantastic, but then kept it on in the airplane which was just uncomfortable.

That is why, for almost five years, I keep going back to pouch slings. I use a Slingling for both my girls who are now 14 mo and 5 yrs. They ride on my hip, hop in and out and I barely notice it when they are not in it. For me and my needs, it is the best hip carrier I have ever had.

I also have a Hippie which is a little shelf on a super sturdy belt that your lo just sits on but that also requires a hand to support them so not really hands free (like the pouch sling). I use that frequently for quick grocery trips. The girls LOVE it.

In my experience, if it is close to effortless we use it, otherwise it sits in the closet.
