My DS has hand,footh, and mouth disease (Coxsackie). He's slowly getting better but his mouth smells like a dead animal (seriously). I know it still hurts and I don't want to cause him any unnecessary pain. Is there any gentle cleansing I could do? He's too young to swish and spit so it would have to be safe to swallow.
Maybe I could use a soft gauze in weak saline or very weak baking soda solution to gently dab at his gums and teeth? Something else?
