clothing brands for fatties (9 mo)? LOL

Alright, I just moved another unworn pair of pants into the donation bag... 12-18mo size, from Janie and Jack (a gift). I already know not to buy Old Navy, which runs too narrow for my fattie, no matter the size. So what brands run wide in the legs and belly for a chubby 9 mo baby? He wears cloth dipes too, which adds to the bulk.

IMO, zutano. at least they are WAY too big in the thighs and belly for my ds

Oh i'm eager to hear these responses. My grandson has a 19 inch rise and a 20 inch waist, which doesn't sound too bad, but across his hips with a diaper on it's like 25.5 inches! and he only has an 8 inch inseam below that diaper. He's a little block and I need a shoehorn to shove him in his pants lol

Yes, definitely zutano. Lots of room in the thighs and great for cloth dipes. Kinda spendy, though, so I usally try and score them secondhand.

Maybe we need to trade baby clothes! I have a super skinny 17 month old, who still fits in some 3-6 month clothes. Family keeps sending me stuff that is 18 months and 2T, which probably won't fit him till kindergarten.

Wow, I would not have thought Zutano! I bought a bunch of thier NB stuff, and it seemed really tiny, smaller than other brands NB stuff. Maybe I will have to give them another try, the clothes are sooooooo cute.

Haha! I love this!! I feel like this with my DS, he feels like a little block too! He's a chunky little thing, was 14 and a half Ibs at 2 months.

Many many unworn, or barely worn things have made it into our donation bag. I thought I had a stock of baby clothes to last the first year, but he is already in the 9 month stuff right now at not even 3 mo.

HA!! I have a chunker tooo. my dd is 9 mo and wears 18 mo - 2t. she can't wear anything jean or khaki...but knit stuff like circo/target pants she can. they only cover 1/2 the cloth diaper in the back...but that doesn't bother me. at least shes got pants on! we roll up sleeves/pants legs a lot!

Zutano makes a newborn line called "itty bitties" which runs quite small, but their regular baby clothes actually run large, especially in the butt. They are awesome for cloth diapers and chunkers.

I have also had great luck with American Apparel infant karate pants. AA seems to run a bit large too. Speesees also makes pants that are wonderful (speesees.com).

I love Janie and Jack clothes but I figured out pretty quick that the pants were a no-go. Their overalls are cut large though...go figure.

I cloth diaper and I have found that a lot of Gymboree stuff runs big and she fits into them.

i agree with the zutano, i bout some of those clothes on clearance at a boutique - (wahoo!!!) and they only fit my DS with a huge fitted underneath, which is silly bc we normally wear an easy, trim pocket or something to go out (or the nature babycare sposies, yeah, SPOSIES! lol) gymboree seems to be cut wider, but i only have sweaters, onesies, and sweatpants to compare to. the socks are cut trim if you get the fitted velouw-type and might cut into chubby ankles. but the standard baby gap/childrens place/walmart 6-12 no skid socks should work perfectly! carters pants seem super short and wide which fits well around chubby kids and/or cloth dipes without the extra length dragging on the floor..
i also should add that if you're looking for a SUPER special outfit, i bought my son a 2ndhand juicy couture outfit, and he didnt get to wear it bc no matter how i rolled it, it was toooo big in the waist for him, if that's a hint.
i liked reading what DOESnt work because my man is 95% height and 30% weight. hehe.

I like Carters brand for roomy clothes for DD. She is a bit chunky but starting to even out at 8 months. Carters has always fit her well, whereas Old Navy and Gap types have always been too small. I haven't heard of Zutano, I'll have to check it out!

Glad to find this thread! My guy was 19lbs at his 4 month appt so he's a chunk. We have been making do with Carter's 9 month size lately. Also just found a line of organic clothes at Walmart (don't tell anyone I shop there) and he actually fits their 6-9 month clothes, so they run big. The brand name is "Fade Glory" and they are cheap!!! (PJs were $5 a pair!) And organic! Yay!

This is not true for me. My 8 month old is in 12-18 months for Gymboree stuff and she's over 20lbs and cannot fit into anything jean or jean-like for pants, especially with a cloth diaper. The leggings and stretchy style of pants are fine though, but IMO they don't run big.

I haven't really found the perfect clothes for my chubby 8 month old. Mostly I just have to make sure whatever she wears is very stretchy.

I heard Walmart has an organic line... I wonder if their business practices are any better with the organics? I do not buy things there, but I would consider "voting with my dollars" if I could find out...

And my 4 month old son is 21 pounds and he is currently wearing a lot of 12 month sizes of the "Jumping Beans" brand from Kohls because I found the waist, butt, and thigh area of their stretch knit and fleece pants fit him comfortably. I also have him in some of the seperates from "Under the Nile" and Kate Quinn.

Wow 4 months and 21lbs! You've got us beat!

I don't normally shop at Walmart I must say. . .but they have been a company to respond quickly to customer demand for organics and things like not carrying rGBH milk. I would love to keep my LO in organic clothes and toys exclusively, but its so pricey (hence my excitement at the Walmart line). I love Under the Nile, but can't afford them most of the time. I mean he outgrows stuff so quickly! Its one thing for a toy he may use and chew on for months and months (maybe years), but for clothes it seems wasteful. In fact, I almost hate to buy new baby clothes at all. . .wish there was a better way to exchange clothes with other mamas.

Yeah, Zutano is a great choice. Big and roomy but and thighs but the legs are tapered so they don't like zepplins. Plus, they can be worn for a long time because they just get short. Great for naps etc. The Zutano Itty Bitty line has a totally different fit. American Apparel is all over the map size wise so don't wash until you've tried them on.

Oddly enough, cloth diapering hasn't been the problem I thought it would be. Most brands fit over her fuzzi bunz just fine. But she is a pretty tall babe and not all that heavy, only 16 pds at 6m unlike her huge brother.

I love these cotton pants. Unfortunately they have been out of key sizes for a while now. I'm so bummed. But we have a couple pairs of these pants and they are roomy. They have some other kinds, sweat pants, that look pretty roomy too. I LOVE the colors.

Cotton pants: http://basicbrilliance.com/cotbabpan.html

Looks like they are back in stock but a few dollars more than what they used to be . $16.50 each is a lot. They have sales often though so they might be $11 on sale.

sweat pants: http://basicbrilliance.com/cottonbabypant.html
These are on sale for $10, much better. I may try these instead.

i've had a lot of luck with stuff from H&M. my daughter is 7 mo and about 20 lbs and 28" and she doesn't fit into 6-12 month stuff from old navy or gap. but she fits perfectly into the H&M 6-9 month size, and is even still wearing some of the 4-6 month pants and onesies, even with her big cloth diapered bottom. they're cut much wider and longer.

they're really affordable, too. they have organic cotton l/s shirts and onesies for $3.95 and pants for under $5.

It's not just the brand- it's the cut and style of clothes. I realized early on that my baby boy wasn't going to be sportin' jeans any time soon- I could NOT find a brand anywhere that was going to be comfortable for him to wear. My son was a big boy (23 lbs by 6 months), and I found that Gymboree was good for most of their clothes- especially the knit cotton bodysuits, pants, etc. They also make a lot of one-piece, snap up the crotch outfits in a knit cotton. Those worked great because they had room in the butt/thigh for hin. I couldn't get him in Old Navy or Gap clothes if his life depended on it, they're just not made for my little guys' build.

It did get better as he got older- by the time he was 15 months I discovered Oshkosh jeans and pants for him, they have styles w/ elastic waists that were really strechy.

My first was a chunk like this. Cater's clothes fit him very well. Gymboree fit pretty well, but often, the legs were too long (like on their one piece rompers). In the summer, and with overalls, this wasn't a problem. But, for winter, it was.

There's also a semi-boutique brand called HeartStrings that fit him very well. You can find their stuff at some department stores and some boutiques. I bought some of their stuff second hand. When I looked at their full line, there were lots of things I didn't like, and just a handful that I liked. But, what I did like, fit very well, and the quality is very nice.
