First of all - how would you pronounce it?
Also - any feelings about it? Good or bad? What does it remind you of?

I like the sound of it and also its meanings:

The persian meaning is a sweet smelling herb

The arabic meaning is The Heavens.

I would guess "RAY-en"

To me it's a very nice-sounding name, but it's awfully close to Ryan AND in sound (if I'm right) it reminds me a lot of Rayon the material component.

I would pronounce it RAY-en.

It reminds me of rayon. Or cosmic rays - a hippie vibe.

The overwhelming consideration here is that Rayan looks like a misspelling of Ryan - he will be doomed to a lifetime of correcting people who assume they have the spelling wrong. That's not something I'd choose for a kid.

Me too.

The first association I get is of somebody simply mispronouncing/overpronouncing 'rain' ... like with a huge drawl maybe...

As for a feeling I get with it. It's quite neutral I think. Not hugely negative (though I'm personally not really an inventive name kind of person), but not anything that warms my heart. So, I'd actually say neutral is probably good.

I can't help but think of Rayanne Graff, the bad girl from My So-Called Life.

I actually think it's a cool name but maybe you could change the spelling to make it look more masculine. Perhaps Reyen.

Interesting - to me it sounds like the girl's name from My So Called Life - remember her crazy friend? Her name was Rayanne.

When I read it, I heard ray-anne, so I would thing girl. But maybe I read it that way just because I've seen that show.

I like the Reyen variation, actually. It looks A LOT less like Rayon for some reason, even though it sounds the same. And Rey reminds me of the sun, which is a nice association.

HA ditto. that's the first thing i thought of when i saw the name. wow, lot of my so called life fans here.

Yeah, not to sound harsh, but when I read it, it makes me think of "Ray-anne" and I get a visual of Luanne from King of The Hill.
