Serger cone for regular machine?

I wanted to use serger thread (some regular, some "fleecy nylon" that I think is like wooly thread) to finish edges on some stuff I'm making.
Problem is, I can't get the cone to fit on the spool holder on my machine.
I have a Babylock ElurePlus, and the spool holder is horizontal, and can't be raised to a vertical position. The second spool holder for twin-needle work is also horizontal.
How can I use this thread on my machine?

I have a serger cone thread holder that sits to the side of my machine. The cone sits upright on a spindle and the thread goes up through a loop at the top of the holder and then threaded through the machine. I think I've seen them at joanne's but I think I got mine online. Do a search to see what they look like and maybe you'll be able to substitute something else.

i'm no expert, but can you transfer the thread onto another spool or bobbin, and use that in your machine?

I do this with Maxilock thread allll the time for diapers and covers. And I don't have anything special, I just sit the cone to the right a little and behind my sewing machine. It has always worked just fine.

Stick the cone in an old spaghetti or mason jar just beside/behind your machine. Works every time.

I use picture-hanging putty to secure the cone to my the regular thread spool on my sewing machine.

Thanks for all the input.
I bought a thread stand today, because even if the serger thread doesn't work, I've seen recommendations for using it with embroidery thread.
I ran out of time to test it out this afternoon, but when I finally do try it, I'll try to remember to post and let you know what works.
Orangefoot - thanks for the heads-up about the tension. I think I might need to use the embroidery bobbin case instead of the regular one.
