movies for sensitive 4 year old - Page 2

DD (5.5) saw some of Tinkerbelle at a friend's house and was absolutely terrified. She was about 4.5 then. We are largely screen free, and she has yet to see a full-length fictional movie. She has absolutely no interest in them, and thinks they are all quite terrifying. She is extremely sensitive and not at all interested in them. From about age 4, we have tried a few different ones, and have never made it more than 10 minutes without her asking us to stop it.

She enjoys some non fictional stuff, though. Around age 4 she started watching Dragonfly TV from PBS Kids. I don't know if they're on the TV, but we downloaded the video podcasts to our iphones. Those are really the only screen time she gets, but she absolutely loves them.

Just tossing it out there as an alternative from another mostly screen-free mama to a sensitive kid!

I was going to mention Mary Poppins-- we're watching it right now! Great movie, IMO. Very positive and gentle, overall.

I'd be interested in hearing about Tinkerbell, since DD LOVES fairies and if it's actually a good one...

Wall-E was a good, Aristocats, Tinkerbell and 101 Dalmations, are also favorites. The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is a great one, gentle, nothing scary or sad. The mid-century Disney seems to be okay, somewhere after Snow White and before the computerized stuff works best for my sensitive girl. UP was NOT a good choice. The drawn out scene where the wife dies clinched it for my DD.

My dd is almost 7 and very sensitive to media. I had a similar issue trying to keep her resting when she was sick. She has always liked Dora the Explora, Blues Clues, Arthur, and Sid the science Kid. You can watch most PBS shows from the internet these days for quick access when sick.

And YES my dds favorite of all time is Mary Poppins.
