Is there a thread started about the Olympics? If not, can this be it? I'm watching the opening ceremonies right now and I'm going to be an Olympic junkie for the next 2 weeks.

I love how they used the floor as a projection screen; seeing the whales swim across was awesome!

Also loved k.d. lang's performance.

i thought that was so cool!

i just finished watching the long speed skating. I'm glad the Dutch guy won. He seemed so happy. And I loved it when he climbed over everything and jumped up in the stands to hug his parents and girlfriend.

signing on! i haven't gotten to watch any competitions yet but have them dvr'd. I also really enjoy the parade and imagining what this means to these athletes, esp those in very small or poor countries!

the opening show was ok- the best part for me was seeing all the native people and their clothes and dances. but there was just too many long songs with nothing much happening. I did like the whales in the floor, too!

We're watching! My oldest is really into this year, it's the first year where he really gets what the Olympics are about. He tried so hard to stay up last night to watch the opening ceremonies. He really wanted to see the torch being run in and lighting the cauldron as we saw the torch when it came through our town. However, it was almost 11pm here by the time the cauldron was lit and he just couldn't make it. He's also very conflicted about who to cheer for -- my kids are dual US/Canadian citizens -- he's quite torn between the country he lives in and the country where he was born.

I *loved* k.d. lang's performance last night, it was amazing. I also liked the slam poetry by Shane Koyczan, fiddling and the focus on our First Nations people. It was a great representation of Canada and what makes this country so diverse and awesome! It made me very proud to say this country is my home.

We've been watching women's hockey, speed skating and moguls tonight. The hockey game was becoming painful to watch -- by the time we changed to NBC, Team Canada was beating Slovakia 6-0 in the 1st. Ouch.

The opening ceremony was great but I really thought that the singers interupted the flow of the event.
