mealtime tyrant!

DS (21 mos)has become a little tyrant at mealtime over the last couple of weeks. He was sick for a week and didn't want to eat much, but now he's feeling better and has become a nightmare in the highchair !
(By the way he is very small--less than 5th% for height and weight, so I'm always trying to get him to eat more & good fats)

Lately, all he wants are "BBs!" (which are frozen blueberries)... He screams and cries "BBS!" while I'm trying to get them ready. He throws anything else on the floor. Whenever he throws food on the floor I immediately take him out of the highchair and calmly explain....(we don't throw food on the floor, we eat food, etc)...when he calms down, I put him back up ...repeat.

I know blueberries aren't bad--it's just the quantity and the behavior! He'll eat endless BBs which just come out the other end. I mix them in whole fat plain yogurt to get some other stuff in him.

Advice on how to deal with this mealtime behavior?
Thanks, mamas--

Is he still nursing? If so, that will give him complete nutrition, so no worries. If not, offer lots of nutritious beverages throughout the day.

This is totally normal- all of it. You are doing fine, he's fine, you will all survive.

Peace,

I agree with above poster. All these annoying toddler antics do pass, thank goodness. Keep setting the boundary, keep repeating, and keep your cool.

sounds like you're doing the right thing, mama. just stay calm, and the whole milk yogurt + bb's is a great solution. My DS is totally addicted to frozen blueberries too! I also mix them in yogurt. You could also try to add some of that Happy Baby Happy Bellies cereal in there for more bulk if you think he's still hungry?
