I'm warming up to my OB.

I'm going for a VBAC with this little one, and have very limited options for OB. After my first visit I wasn't sold on the Doc, and have been worried that his reputation for being more on the natural side of things was a myth.

At yesterdays appt. we had the following convo, followed by a convo on how much things have changed in OB care in the last 30 years (since my DH was born, who has arthrogryposis).

Doc: I'm supposed to ask you about the Quad screening.
Me: Nope. We don't do those screenings.
Doc: Judging by your tone I'd say you know what your talking about, I don't need to explain anything.
Me: Nope, my understanding is they tend to generate false positives, cause a lot of undue stress in a pregnant woman and unnecessary risky tests like amniocenteses.
Doc: Your brilliant my girl. You just said everything "they" don't want me to say.

My last OB argued with us about these tests, stating that since DH was born with arthrogryposis we really needed to have these tests. Nevermind that DH's condition was caused by low amniotic fluid, isn't genetic and could easily be diagnosed with a U/S.

Sounds like a great visit! It also sounds like it is very clear to him you are educated in your body, pregnancy and birth and he respects that .

I'd gander a guess that you'll find you like him more and he will continue to be respectful and supportive of whatever decisions you make. This was my experience with someone I wasn't sure about, but as we got to know eachother better a great mutual respect developed!!

Congrats on a good feeling OB .
I wish you continued greatstuff.

I think a big reason why I'm so apprehensive is I loved the OB I had with my first son. I thought he was the bees knees until about 20 weeks. Things went very badly throughout my pregnancy, but I didn't find out until I moved and sought new GYN care how degligent he had really been. Also I had a c-section that was questionable. Now I'm going for a VBAC and am even more scared for this birth than I was for my first.
