Pretty sure I have GOUT...

...which is funny, considering that I'm a 32-year old vegetarian woman. I think I've had it for around 10 years. About 7 years ago I went to a podiatrist for these mysterious painful flareups in my toe joints. He was mystified, the only thing he could suggest was gout but said that would be nearly unheard of in a 20-something woman. He recommended NSAIDs and I never followed up again. I recently had a few flareups, which coincided with me going on a supplement regimen that includes a lot of B vitamins. I went online looking for some explanation. Gout came right up and I found a note that gout flareups are common after taking high doses of B vitamins.

Okay, so now...any natural ways to help reduce the amt of uric acid buildup while still being able to take my b vitamins? There is nothing in my diet/lifestyle/etc that would be typical for someone with gout, so I'm thinking genetics.

My dh was diagnosed with gout at age 30..dr couldn't believe but he has family history and psoriasis which is auto-immune. He is vegan and eats a very good diet. To help his gout he has been making an apple cider vinegar drink and feels that it has helped quite a bit. When he gets home I will ask him the specifics, amounts etc..and post again!

He mixes about 16 ounces of water, two cap fulls of apple cider vinegar(Bragg, with the mother) and blackstrap molasses 3x a day when you have a flare up. After that maybe once a day. Make sure you drink enough water, he said your urine will probably be pretty dark.

Thank you! I will try some Bragg's. I know from experience that I can't take the molasses straight, but I guess I can at least try to bake with it a lot around those times.

my dh also has gout at a young age, as well as my brother in law and best friend's husband. My husband is able to prevent it as soon as he starts feeling the "tingling" in his toe by drinking a glass of water with two tablespoons of baking soda dissolved in it. He also drinks devil's claw tea and dandelion root tea. If he doesn't start this right away, and he starts hurting, he'll take some ibuprofen along with this remedy. Baking soda has a lot of sodium so if you can't have a lot of sodium, just do the teas.

DH was dxed with gout at age 33, the last 6 months he has been free from flare ups but I know they will be back since he has made no changes to his lifestyle.
