Any truth to this....

So I am seeing a perinatologist every 4 weeks just to make sure babies are growing at the same rate. I had a very extensive ultrasound done at my 26 week appointment and everything was great. The only "problem" is that the babies are measuring almost two weeks ahead. I'm certain of my due date and since I have 8-9lb babies I'm just assuming my twins would be on the bigger side as well (as far as big for twins, lol). Makes sense to me anyway. Well when the Dr and ultrasound tech started telling me that the babies were big I was happy. I thought yeah I'm growing big babies and that will make it better for them in if for some reason I went into premature labor. Well the Dr & tech both made comments that we need to keep an eye on it because if they grow too big too fast the excess weight could in itself send me into preterm labor. So now I kinda feel "can't win for losing". If the babies are too small that's bad and now they are telling me that if they are too big that's bad. Any experiences or stories of babies growing too large being a problem? I have been tested for GD and passed no problem. Kinda irked.

No personal story, but in the Barbara Luke book about pregnancy with multiples, they talk about a uterus having a certain point that it won't grow past, which can be different from woman to woman. It means that if the babies are really big, your uterus might hit its tipping point and trigger labor. I'd guess that's what your doctor is talking about.

I can't answer your question exactly. My boys were 7.4 each. I've heard of bigger twins, although people marvled at how big mine were.

I was gestationally diabetic, and I'll tell you, those docs made me feel so guilty about not being able to control my numbers, despite losing weight, on insulin, and watching my diet very closely. It happened again with my singleton, minus the insulin. I think that when the docs, especially the specialist docs notice something in a critical fashion, we mothers can't help but assume blame. So my advice is do the best you can, and try very hard not to take the critical observations personally. And hey-- perhaps you're not, but I'm seeing your experience through my own.

I guess at 26 weeks an ultrasound determining size might be more accurate than one done later but ultrasound weights can be off by quite a bit. My two were estimated to be about 6lbs at 35 weeks but when I gave birth almost 2 weeks later they were only 5-1/2 lbs and 6lbs.
