Twin moms

I just had an aha! type moment. At the risk of sounding dumb I wanted to ask.

With twins, do you worry about switching sides as much or does baby a get one side and baby b get one side and it's not really a passing thought for you? Does it matter as much to make sure each baby gets each side (not neccessarily in one sitting because I know I don't do that)?

we do assigned sides. When they got older around 15 months they started playing musical boobs but before then they each had there own

Most of the time each of mine had "assigned" boobs. Sometimes if I switched the in the middle of the night, I had no idea who was who!

My twins each had their assigned boobie. Amazingly, if I wasn't thinking and would put the left twin on the right boob, she would scrunch up her little face and turn her head as if to say, "Maman, this is not MY boob!"

I tried to make sure to rotate mine when they were young, so they would't get a preference and milk supply would be similar on both sides. In the end, the milk production was different anyway, and one twin was much happier with one side, and the other didn't care. So they were "assigned" by default.
In a strange consistency, the twin who had a preference about nursing sides has a preference about EVERYTHING.

In the first few weeks, I used to switch sides with each feeding. Sometimes I'd forget who'd had which side last though and so I would just wing it.

After a few weeks, I realized that DS was not getting enough, while DD2 seemed to be drowning in milk-- their needs seemed to be different. So I assigned each one their own side-- DS on the right and DD2 on the left, mostly because DS was heavier and my right arm is a bit stronger. That let each twin regulate their own supply by demand, and each got what they needed. They got downright rigid about their side preference once they got to about a year old.

I did alter positioning, doing sometimes a cradle hold and sometimes a football hold and sometimes side-lying, so that they weren't always looking at me with the same eye and at the same angle, as I heard that that's one reason why switching sides is a good idea.

It worked well for us.
