Nico arrived after 51 hours of labor on Thursday morning at 9 am. Here's a quick overview
Tuesday:
labor starts on it's own about 6 am, midwives check in around 2 - little progress, continue to labor at home throughout the night
Wednesday:
midwives come at 5 AM still very little progress, due to concerns about baby's position (OP or ROA) and little progress along with VBAC we decide to transfer to the hospital, drive 1 hour away to backup OB, labor through the day at the hospital (staff was great and supportive and not pushy at all), 6pm still only dilated to a 4 - I have had little sleep, 7 pm I get a dose of nubain so that I can get some sleep before making any other decisions, 9pm I decide to get the epidural and pitocin, I make rapid progress between 9-11 but then stall at about 8cm....vary between 7-9cm throughout the night
Thursday:
Things pick up at 5:30 in the morning, start relying on hypnobabies with DH giving me the relax cues, at 8 am Dr says I'm still 9 and baby is not positioned well but they decide to let me try pushing (later find out this was partially to see if I could push), everyone expecting a long, long pushing stage, 8:57 Nico is born after less than 45 minutes of pushing - he turned somewhere along the way, my midwife almost missed the birth while she was getting compresses ready to help me push, 2 small tears - no stitches
Nico was 8 lb 4 oz, 21 inches long and is nonstop nursing :-)
Not the birth I pictured or planned but I made the decisions along the way with no undo pressure from anyone.
