Fusses on the potty, then pees when I put his diaper back on

Ds (5 mths) doesn't cue a lot, so I find that since starting up EC again in the last 2 weeks (we had a looooong break from it) that I take him to the potty a lot. There are have been lots of times when I put him on the potty and he pees in it within 5 seconds so I think he definitely seems to get that he can pee in the potty. But then there are other times when I take him and he won't go and just fusses if I try to keep him on the potty and then he pees in his diapers less than 5 minutes later! This happened a lot today.

Is it common for them to sometimes just not want to pee in the potty? What do you do when they don't want to sit on the potty even when they have to pee? Is there much I can do?

Move the potty to a new place (in front of a window or mirror is usually good, Lina likes having the potty sitting on our couch), offer toys, offer books, hold him over the toilet/sink/bathtub, sing a song, nurse and offer, leave his pants off and offer again in a minute, go outside, blow on him, burble his baby belly, tickle under the belly button, turn him upside down or dance him around until he's in a giggly good mood then offer, run water (sort of a last resort when you KNOW he has to pee but it's just not happening)...

Generally speaking, while it takes some experimentation to find something that works for you, once you find something that works it will work for awhile before you have to play around to find the new trigger for helping your LO relax to pee.

Mine was just doing this until Dad figured out that DS's penis was stuck to his testicles and he wouldn't go. Now I just make sure it's not stuck before we try. He also needs a few minutes sometimes to let go.
