I can hardly eat anything and would pass out. So, no. I have two kids to take care of.

I'm Orthodox Catholic, so lent for us is all about progression towards a completely vegan diet the last week of lent by eliminating meat one week, dairy the next, oils the next, and fish the last week. That being said, I do continue to eat meat of the non-fish variety throughout lent while pregnant (when pregnant, I keep fish as part of my diet the entire time) but keep it down to simple protiens and usually once/day. I also keep dairy the entire time. This is the last year that I'll be pregnant during lent and I do look forward to next year when we can observe lent as a family together. Good luck, OP.

I will forgo meat on Ash Wednesday and on Fridays until I have my baby (I'm almost 38wks.) After the baby is born, I will not forgo meat on Fridays simply because I could always use more iron after giving birth. I will prepare meatless meals for my hubby and kids, but I'll also cook a little beef to be added to my meal.

I will abstain from meat but will not fast. I have some tough morning sickness right now and the only way I have found to keep it in check is to eat small, frequent meals. I don't feel that God wants me to spend ash wens. and fridays dry heaving while trying to care for my other children. We generally eat fish on fridays in lent so I'm still getting plenty of protein. If we don't have fish we have vegetarian soup or grilled cheese sandwiches. We don't eat meat everyday anyway so it's not a big adjustment.

I'm not Catholic, but we fast something for Lent. This year, I'm giving up sodas (a big vice for me), as well as meat on Fridays/Ash Wednesday.

I mentioned these posts to my mom a couple of days ago. She asked the priest that she worked for about the rules for pregnant women during lent. He said that they are expected to follow the abstinance rule-no meat on Ash Wednesday or Fridays, and to follow a modified rule on fasting during Ash Wednesday-one medium meal should be eaten and two smaller meals, BUT pregnant women ARE allowed to snack between meals.

He said that pregnant and breastfeeding women used to be exempt from the fasting and abstinance, but that was back when Catholics followed these practices the every day for 40 days.

Abstinence and fasting are required on Ash Wednesday and Fridays during Lent. You're also supposed to give up something extra. So for example, I'm following the abstinence and fasting and also giving up facebook (which I'm entirely too addicted to).

At any rate, I abstain from meat as required while I'm pregnant/nursing, though I might adjust the fasting, depending on the circumstances (ie, not comfortable fasting when I have a newborn and my milk is coming in, but totally not a big deal when I'm nursing a toddler!)
