recommendation on a pram

Thread Starter
Hi,

I am expecting my first baby in May and I want to buy a pram (so the baby is not an constricted) as opposed to a traditional sit up stroller. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on prams they have and really like. Thank you,

Just throwing this idea out there...
DD is 9.5 months old, and we don't own a regular stroller (I recently got a jogging stroller that I use only to run with); she much prefers being in a sling/carrier/wrap (and I prefer not pushing a big stroller around). Prams can only be used for such a short period of time, and when they are so little, it is easier to just wrap them up tight in a Moby and go about your day anyway.
Just some food for thought

I think it depends on where you live. If you live in a suburb and will be driving frequently (and carting a stroller around), you might want something different than if you live in an urban environment.

I live in New York City, so I can offer my two cents about what has worked for us. We were given a Bugaboo stroller by our parents, which has a bassinet feature. We used the bassinet for our son for the first month or so. After that, my son wasn't happy lying perfectly flat and unable to see anything. The bassinet is pretty big, so it isn't the greatest stroller if you are trying to maneuver inside stores or other tight places. The Bugaboo then converts to a sitting up stroller when the child gets older. It is a great stroller - gives a very smooth ride and is incredibly durable - it's perfect for city streets with the uneven sidewalks and potholes. But, it is pricey - $800 or so. You can get used Bugaboos on Craiglist.

I have also used a sling for shopping - when I'm not going far, need my hands free, and am going to a store with narrow aisles.

Hope this is helpful. There are many strollers out there, so hopefully other moms can offer their advice about what they've liked.

i vote UppaBaby. we weren't going to get a stroller either and i do wear him a lot but i personally need to put him down at times and he also likes the freedom especially if he is sleeping.

We love, love, love our Mountain Buggies! We have had sevaral, since we've sold them used in Europe every time we've been there. There is a carrycot bassinet (pram) that can be used up to six months (our oldest, who was an average baby, could fit up to eight months though), and after that point you just clip on the seat and it becomes a regular, fully reclining stroller. They just released a carrycot for the Swift, which has been my favorite model so far. It's a little smaller than the Urban Jungle, so the carrycot would probably be a bit narrower.

We have the Micralite Toro. I like it enough, but the bassinet is huge, I couldn't imagine taking it in stores or tight spaces. I've only taken the kid out in it for walks around the neighbourhood.

To be honest though, I live in a city and I find babywearing way more convenient than a stroller, at least for this early period (DD is 3 mos). I can just pop in and out of a store, don't have to worry about *parking* the stroller, can jump on and off transit, etc.
