Whole Foods really doing a low fat campaign??

Someone please tell me this is not happening. Even so, I don't shop at Whole Paycheck anymore, anyway.

I haven't witnessed it, only read about it. But I doubt it will make much difference one way or the other, given the overwhelmingly loud noise made by all kinds of dietary "experts" advocating low fat. WF telling people to eat vegetarian and low fat is unlikely to make much impact in relation to that, IMO.

I don't shop there anymore, either. It used to be a good place to go every now and then to get some things I couldn't find anywhere else, but the last few years they mostly don't have those things anyway, or other places more convenient and less expensive also have them. The last few times I was in there, I noticed and was very annoyed by the fact that most of their fresh produce isn't even organic now, and you have to be careful and really examine the signs to tell. Seriously, less than half the produce in the WF nearest me was organic last time I was there, and we're in CA for Pete's sake, where you can find organic anything, most of it from in-state. No excuse to put conventional broccoli crowns for sale right next to organic broccoli (with stems) for the same price. I won't even get started on the animal products. The only redeeming thing is that here they sell raw milk (not that I buy it there).

I did notice some sort of health promotion display the other day when I was in there... didn't pay much attention but I think it was something like this. The CEO is a vegan so not that surprising.

I know! What the heck is that about? If I wanted conventionally grown produce, I'd buy it at the regular market for way cheaper. Sheesh!
They recently stopped selling raw milk at their Florida stores, which now seems like the first step in this new campaign.....

Will anyone honestly pay attention to nutrition advice from the store?

ok, ok, I know the answer to that question. just as much as they (do) pay attention to nutritional advice from anyone else trying to sell stuff.

I too no longer shop at WF market. even if I could afford it, I wouldn't want to. we have other health food stores here, with plenty of options, there stuff isn't particularly good, their food sucks, it's too expensive, and they really have nothing at all special. occasionally they have a good deal on something (like kerrygold) but it's not worth it usually. to find said good deal, I'd have to shop there regularly, and why waste my time when I could support local business, instead of a corporation who has horrible business practices, and a bad agenda?

From what I read from the Whole foods website the campaign encourages a plant centric/ not exclusive diet. It encourages eating whole foods that are not processed. While I may have problems with Whole Foods for other reasons this is actually good advice.

I am wondering if this is leading to some strange things I noticed there today. For one, on a container of "Bleu Cheese Bits" the word "VEGETARIAN" was very prominent. I was a bit confused by that... I'm assuming they meant the feed of the cow was vegetarian? Or that vegetarians could eat it, not Vegans???

I am getting to the point where I would just rather go to our local farmer's market. I always feel like there is such a price mark-up at Whole Foods anyway, though there are a few things that are good deals there (eggs from a local farm, though I don't think they are that high quality they are at least local, and the do have some good deals on produce at times.)

I'm guessing they mean vegetarian because of the rennet issue.
