If you have a bowl-lift Kitchen-Aid. . .

does the bowl-lift mechanism rock and make noise when you knead bread (or other stiff dough)? My DH bought me the professional HD from Costco for my birthday this week. My old KA was a tilt-head so this is a new issue for me.

yes, mine does when every it's working a tough/full load. It does it when kneading bread and if I make a double batch of cookies. I've had mine for about a year and while I don't use it too often, it doesn't seem to be something defective or that's causing wear.

Yeah, it does. Glad you got a proffessional for bread making. The lower model of lift-bowl is really taxed by breadmaking.

Mine is a bit creaky at times. But I think it is over 10 years old now and it only started creaking recently. It rocks if not on a sturdy surface, because that thing has some major horsepower and torque. I could raise a barn with it. Good luck.

Okay, I'm glad to hear that it's normal

Yes, I started out with the standard 250W/4.5qt. It did okay, but it could BARELY handle two loaves worth of dough before the dough started climbing on me and every once in a while I could hear that the motor was really chugging along. DH got me the 475W/5qt deal at Costco and it handled 3 loaves worth last night with room to spare. And it was kneaded much more thoroughly than before. . . in fact, I was finding with the old one that I actually had to pull the dough out and finish kneading by hand to get the texture I wanted. Looks like I may not have to do that any more

I got the same one for Christmas. Is it normal for it not to mix in the stuff at the bottom? I've made a few different things, and each time there's unmixed flour at the bottom. I thought they were better than that.

Irish--I've read that you can calibrate the position of the attachment so that won't happen any more. I believe there are instructions in the manual, but I'm sure you can find them online if you don't have yours anymore. I haven't had this problem with either of mine, but I know others have.

ETA--I just looked and it's on page 22 of the manual. HTH!

I've only had that problem when the bowl wasn't clicked into place. There's the two hooks where it hangs and then you need to push down on the back so that the metal "button" clicks into place and it sits level (otherwise it will be a bit higher in the back). When this is done I don't have any knocking around issues - however keep in mind I don't bake bread (I do pizza dough regularly though, either 2 or 4 crusts worth).

Thanks!

I'm a professional baker using the 5qt at home. It does tend to struggle a bit when i make a double batch (6 cup recipe), but it's fine. you can finish the kneading on the board if you like, but i find if you just readjust the dough a couple of times during the mixing it comes out great.

I have the KA Professiona 6. Never makes noises like that. But it's a 525 watt motor.
