metametrix test came up protozoan parasites taxonomy unknown ? help.

Both my son and I took a metametrix test of our stool sample because we have been sick with diarrhea, me for over 8 months, him for about 4 months. He is 2 and I am nursing. Took many tests from our doctor and nothing came up so the Metametrix test did show that he has a parasite, taxonomy unknown, a protozoan non-human parasite. Mine also came back with the same and Endolimax nana another protozoan parasite and Helicobacter pylori. I don't know what to do. Anyone fought off protozoan parasites of unknown taxononmy and won? Would it be worth it to give my 2 year old Flagyl? I can't take it because I am nursing. Any reference to doctors that know how to kill these guys effectively or treatments, websites, etc. would be very very helpful

i don't know about the protozoa, but I did take Flagyl for a parasite and continued to have problems because I didn't fix the underlying susceptibility. I had low stomach acid - stomach acid is our first line defense against infections. I needed to take betaine hcl for a while and I am taking zinc, as zinc is necessary for stomach acid production.

ETA: I think Flagyl is L2 per Hale, I was breastfeeding when I took it. I may not have taken it if I had an infant, but a toddler who could be prescribed Flagyl themselves wasn't a huge concern to me. But again, I don't recommend Flagyl.

Ours was parasite unknown and all of us have it and are symptomatic. Flagyl failed to get rid of it in all of us. We just finished Alinia. I'm going to pm you specific details but Andrew has had this parasite for 2.5 years it seems (found on metametrix then and assumed it was passing through). The rest of us more likely about 8 months (based on symptoms).

In my research I've decided that a couple of things likely predispose to parasites:
Low BH4
Low SiGa levels (though some of the most common parasites cause this to lower predisposing to more infections). This number will be found on the metametrix report and there are ways to raise it. I suspect raising it is important both in getting rid of infections and resisting.

In my son's case he has his hands in his mouth all the time and that alone may have been his instigating issue. I'm afraid to do BH4 (doctor left it in my hands to decide) because I see links between it and mitochondrial function and I don't want to do any mito damage. I am not sure where we'll end up.
