1 or 2 training potties? Stairs involved - WDYD??

We have a 2 floor home. So that means if we are on the opposite floor from where DSs potty is we would have to negiotiate the stairs & 2 safety gates. I dont think we would make it.

We havent started training yet, but he is showing signs of readiness. This thought just crossed my mind last night.

What do you do?? Should I get a second potty??

Definitely get a second potty. It is no fun trying to run up or down stairs with a toddler who has to go RIGHT NOW!!!
We actually have 3 bathrooms in our house and there is a toilet seat reducer in each one. (DS has graduated from potties). You just never know where he may be when the need strikes.

I keep one potty on each floor, it makes PLing so much easier.

We have two floors and four potties. And a potty seat for each toilet. And they all get used!

Definitely the more potties the better. We have 2 floors too - so each bathroom has a potty ring and a stool, and there's a little frog potty in the living room.

We had 4 potties and 2 seat covers. We have 3 floors so one on each floor, and plus an extra one on our main floor. I liked them to be around so DD would see them and remember to use them. I got 3 of them from Ikea for $2.99 each!

With my dd we moved a baby bjorn potty around the house. It may seem gross, but it worked for us and prevented her from failing. We had 1 potty and this worked fine for us.

We have a multi level house, and have a potty on each of the three floors. However, I try not to use the one on the non-bathroom floor very often, simply because I HATE dumping it in the sink. I like to have a toilet nearby to dump it in. But when you're first starting out, I think it's better to have them close...you can graduate to using the bathroom ones as LO is better able to control it.

yeah, we have like 4 or 5 potties. one for each bathroom, my parents' house, the car, etc. strategically placed potties will most certainly increase the chances of catching something in them.

Yes! We have a 1 story house and 3 potties! They've moved around as our needs changed. We started off with 1 in each bathroom and 1 in the car. Then we realized that we needed them more in rooms like the living room and playroom, and as he learned to use public potties, the 3rd potty came into our master bedroom. Now that he's pretty well potty trained, I have 1 in his bedroom (with the sincere hope that he will use it if he needs to potty in the middle of the night), one in the hallway/playroom because he likes to relax in there in front of the tv lol, and one in the master bedroom for early morning pottying and getting ready for school. He can and will use a regular toilet now, so the next step will be phasing out the potties. Oh yeah, we have the green frog potties too and love them.

We have a multi-level home. DD used one Baby Bjorn Little Potty. We would simply move the potty about the house (and empty/clean as needed in one of three bathrooms).

I live in a two story house and so far only have one potty. We are very early on in PLing. I think having another one would be handy but since we spend significantly more time on one floor, I'm making it work.

I wish I lived near to Ikea! I'd definitely buy a couple of their potties.

We have a potty for each bathroom (2), a potty in the play area off the kitchen, and a potty beside our bed. The two in the bathrooms are fancier with lids and seats that remove to go on the toilet, etc (Summer brand) and the other two are Ikea cheapies. We also have another Ikea one at my mom's house.

We started "EC lite" around 8 mo and so I wanted to have potties within sight most of the time so that it is easy for DS to get to one if that is how he chooses to signal. This works really well for us. Some might think it's gross to have a potty in plain sight or next to a toy basket but running up the stairs with a toddler who is pooping in your arms is grosser, IMO, and not at all a pleasant potty experience. The closer the potty, the less rushed and panicked the experience will be. We will gradually phase out the play room and bedroom potties but will always keep one in each bathroom (or a seat).

I agree, have a potty where ever they spend the most time. If they spend a lot of time in different places, either take the potty with them or have a potty in that room. No, I'm not one of those people who thinks having a potty sitting around is gross, if it's full of stuff, yes, but that's gross even in the bathroom.

We have the cheap froggy potty from Target or Walmart, it's the best I"ve used. And, since they are only 12 buck, you can afford to buy more than one for different areas of the house.

We love.love.love the froggy potty in our house. We have a 2 story home with one bathroom on the second floor. We have the bigger Bjorn potty upstairs and the froggy potty downstairs. We also have the potty seat insert ring. The froggy potty does a much better job containing little boy pee and is the hands down favorite for both mom and child.

I have 2 potties which makes life so much easier! There is nothing worse than running up the stairs every 10 minutes with a little one that needs to use the potty for the hundredth time a day!

I bought an expensive potty ($22), but DS prefers the cheap Ikea potty that was $3!!! For that price I should have bought another one.

I would recommend getting your LO to try out the potties before you buy one and maybe get the same style potty. Once DS saw the Ikea potty he didn't want the other one anymore.

We used a little potty on the first floor for over a year. I left it out a little longer than I wanted, but was afraid of a regression after the baby was born. After a month with no accidents or asking for a diaper, we finally removed it from the first floor. We used a little seat on the upstairs toilet, but often he would sit on the big seat w/o it. We didn't use anything in the basement toilet, but he was mostly standing to pee there.

I will say, in the beginning, we kept the little potty right in front of the big toilet so he could sit when I sat. But that was before the days of nekkie butt pottie training.
