probably going on abx, best probiotic choice for me?

I imagine I will be put on abx this afternoon for a nasty infection. I am nursing and while I have never had a yeast infection and have taken abx while nursing before I still want to be prepared and take some probiotics. I am really run down and will have to send dh out for this stuff, so I am going to have to be really specific and make it easy for him as he rarely steps in a grocery store or hfs.

I will eat more plain yogurt. I get the Stoneyfield plain and usually don't put anything in it. I will probably end up making my own as it tastes better with nothing in it. I would like to do something else as well so I don't have to eat a ton of yogurt. What would be better, a randomly chosen bottled probiotic or kombucha? And if kombucha (it would be GT Dave's or Dave's GT can't remember the name) how much a day? Should a cup be enough or should I do a whole bottle a day? Also, what is the best timing for the probiotics so as to not counteract the abx?

Ok, thanks in advance for the responses.

If that Kombucha has s. boulardi it in that's what you want. I always, always use s. boulardi w/antibiotics because it is the one beneficial probiotic the antibiotics can't kill off and it's especially good with the big nasty stuff that can come w/antibiotics. It's great w/yeast too.

Florastor is the most commonly used s. boulardi and it has clinical studies backing up it's effectiveness. It does contain dairy. Klaire labs sells an allergen free. I would order one of them online today and start them when you get them.

Culturelle is really good w/antibiotics and widely available at most drug stores (maybe call ahead so hubby doesn't hit a store w/out--I have good luck w/CVS around here if you have one of those). You would take it every dose of antibiotic. The antibiotic kills it off each time so you have to keep putting it back in (w/some space between the probiotic and antibiotic). Ideally I think three hours after each dose and then again half way between doses. The dairy free culturelle is much harder to find in my experience so if you need that definitely call around.

I hope you're better soon.
