Doe anyone just wash their diapers? - Page 2

In the summer, I just wash and then line dry. They smell great and I love seeing the dipes on the line. In winter, I do use a dryer or a rack in my basement. Prefolds are pretty easy to line dry.

Take care!

Never done anything more than a regular wash cycle. Actually I always do delicate cause I notice more wear with the regular cycle and I love my diapers

They always come out perfectly clean. No stink issues. No stripping. No repelling. And we have a HE front loader. So I'd say yes you can definitely just wash with no fuss. I lived in an apartment with a commercial machine for years (pre-baby) and that was the best washer ever. Those things are just made to work. I think you'll do great.

My washer is pretty simple, so I dont have the option of an extra rinse cycle but there are ways to get around that.

I just set it to when it starts the last rinse of the cycle, before it spins the clothes for the last time. This helps get a cold "start" and then I start the regular cycle (using hot/cold setting).

This seems to work fairly well. Sometimes I skip that first step.. if I'm in a rush or feeling l lazy :P. You can always sun out the stains if need be.

ETA: Sometimes if there are a lot of poopy diapers, I do one cold wash with detergent, then a quick hot rinse, then dry.
Hi there,
I noticed you said you washed your dipes in homemade detergent... I'm wanting to make detergent for my CDs, but all the recipes I can find call for soap, Fels Naptha or otherwise. Since I've had problems with ammonia smell in the past, I'm wanting to avoid anything that could leave residue... like soap! What has your experience been with the homemade detergent? Do you mind sharing your recipe?

I used to just do a single hot/cold wash w/ extra rinse and throw in the drier, with zero issues. I'm up to doing two washes now (cold/cold then hot/cold), simply because the cold/cold wash keeps stains to a minimum, but I'm just not comfy without a hot wash in there somewhere.

ETA: Oh when I just did a hot/cold wash I used allens naturally... I've switched to Planet, mostly cause' I can get it through my co-op and not pay for shipping. Good luck!!

My routine:

Rinse off with sprayer
1 cold cycle, no soap
1 hot cycle, with soap
Dry

I've never had any problems.

I washed diapers in our apartment laundry room and gave up. Some of those reasons might be specific to my particular situation.

I lived on the second story with only stairs. I had a particularly hard time adjusting to two children (one of whom was a high needs baby) and going up and down the stairs all day, every other day just about put me over the edge.

Our washers were really old top loaders and I don't think they were good quality. I had to pay to do a full cold wash, then a hot wash, then another cold because it didn't have any options for rinses and the dipes weren't getting clean with one wash. Then I'd dry them in the dryer. It was incredibly time consuming.
