This is sooooo cool and in my area too. I wonder if I should send them a resume?

The Cleveland Model

"The Evergreen Cooperative Laundry (ECL)--a worker-owned, industrial-size, thoroughly "green" operation--opened its doors late last fall in Glenville, a neighborhood with a median income hovering around $18,000. It's the first of ten major enterprises in the works in Cleveland, where the poverty rate is more than 30 percent and the population has declined from 900,000 to less than 450,000 since 1950. "

i've worked a few times for employee owned cooperitives. in every one the worker/owners felt a real sense of pride and ownership that i didnt experience in other places. what a wonderful thing to do.

It is so exciting to me to see communities making things happen and being sustainable at the same time. This is the future, I think and a way to heal our communities, culture, and economy.

absolutely. we need more of this in capitalism. one of the reasons i love living here is the huge number of coop's we have. we have a coop for just about everything, schools (free schools even for adults, grocery, bikes,) it is so awsome.
