New to CD--question about rise...

So, in my stash I have Rumparooz and BG (all are OS). My child is 6 months and weighs 14ish pounds. I really want to CD for the long haul, but even now at 6 months I have the diapers on their biggest settings.

I guess this is because I like a high rise? I want the diaper to come up to the bellybutton, and so the only way to achieve this is to unsnap all the way.

My question is this: HOW are these diapers supposed to last until toddlerhood?Does it just magically work out? Cause right now I don't see how it could, and I really will be disappointed to have to go back to disposables in the future.

Once your baby starts sitting up and crawling, s/he might protest having such a high rise, as it might be restricting.

You could always try other brands and see what their rises are like. I'm not sure why you would have to switch to disposables.

I am with you: I actually prefer the super-high rise of disposable diapers to how most cloth diapers are obsessed with "trimness" and end up with really low rises. We just started experimenting with a few pocket diapers after being in prefolds since birth, and I just don't know. I am not a low-rise diaper person at this point.

Is your baby chunky through the thighs and belly, by any chance? Mine is, and I finally realized that part of my objection to how the pockets fit is how they fit on his chunky thighs- they seemed "too small" to me, but that was in part because of the low rise and in part because of how they just can't handle his awesome plump thighs.

Why yes! She does have some cute chubby legs, and that seems to make the fit a bit harder. I do plan on making it work, but I wish there were more cloth diaper high rise options.

I think it's mainly my own personal hang-up AND the fact that this is my third child but my first to cloth diaper. I'm just not used to the difference in fit.

Kinda, yeah. lol

Ds was in the 2nd rise setting of BG's, and and it was a little low at 3ish mos old. Now, at 7mos and 19ish lbs, he fits well on the middle rise, and it's maybe even a little tall.

I have other OS dipes that he fit in unsnapped, and now fits really well on the middle rise.

I have no idea how that works. Maybe changes in thigh chunkiness?

I think you'll be ok Mama! My entire stash is Rumparooz, and I was starting to get really worried about that as well! My ds is about 16Ib @3 mo, and has some really chunktastic thighs!

I posted this question on a diaper forum, asking specifically about the RaR fit. Everyone told me that the fit will change as he grows, starts crawling/walking, etc. Some people end up snapping back DOWN a size on the rise, etc. Its just a matter of constantly re-adjusting as the LO grows I guess. I also experiment with the placement of the insert, since it affects the fit so much.

Thanks everyone! I'm really new at this, but I'm sure it will all work out in the end. Yay for cloth diapers!

I'll just add that tiny tush seems to have a higher rise than most pockets, but as your baby grow they will change in proportion...my ds was on highest rise by 5 monthhs and is now back to the second snap on his tiny tush because he is finally slimming out... my chunky monkey was 22 pounds by 6 months! so you should be ok!
