Immune Boosting/Whole Foods cookbooks

Hi Ladies,

I tried to do some searching but haven't found quite what I'm looking for yet. I'm looking to overhaul (in steps I can handle!) the way we currently eat. Less meat, less processed foods, less sugar, more grains, more veggies, more mushrooms, more spices (turmeric, ginger, cayenne pepper) new stuff I've never hear of before etc.(astragulus root) I was recently diagnosed with stage 3 melanoma and want to try my best to boost my immune system to help fight off any remaining cancer cells but I need help as I'm finding this overwhelming!

And I am also finding conflicting info...
dairy good/bad? (we only do organic)
soy good/bad? (just started adding in soy milk and then told no do almond...)
oils? which are good? should I just use butter?

Could someone please point me in the right direction? I've been looking on Amazon and reading reviews but honestly I trust your opinions more! I'm interested in any and all resources regarding the above topics both from a learning aspect and a practical aspect (cookbooks).

Thank you!

I can't give you advice on fighting cancer, but I have heard of people in your situation doing well on either a macrobiotic diet or a vegan one. You can check out Christina Pirello's book (Cooking the Whole Foods Way) for info on macro: she claims to have slammed her leukemia into remission with it. You could also take a look at the general site that connects with the Crazy Sexy Cancer documentary, www.crazysexylife.com.

The only immune boosting book I can think of is for kids, and it's called SuperImmunity for Kids. I've also been reading Feeding the Whole Family lately.

I have a book called The Whole Foods Bible which I haven't read too much of, but it includes explanations of different types of foods, warnings about things to avoid, and of course recipes.

Another book that I love having on my shelf is called The Whole Foods Companion. It's not a cookbook: it's kind of like a dictionary or encyclopedia of foods (all plant-based foods), and gives nutritional information, historical information, and health supporting information for each. It's a pretty cool reference.

Good luck with your fight, mama! I'll be thinking of you.
