What is Shrove Tuesday? Is it Fat Tuesday? If is why that change?

Shrove Tuesday/Fat Tuesday/Mardi Gras...all the same thing. Mardi Gras is the French translation of Fat Tuesday.

Wiki explains the difference in terminology... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrove_Tuesday

I'm also liking the term "Pancake Day."

Yum. I love IHOP. Although, I have to say, even as an adult, I'm usually torn between the chocolate chip pancakes and the harvest grain and nut pancakes. I can never eat more than two....but boy do I enjoy those two!

Locally some people call it Paczki Day. A paczki is a rich pastry which serves the same purpose as the pancakes - a last feast before the fast begins. Of course, everybody still eats the pancakes or whatever even if they are not fasting afterwards.

Growing up in Detroit (large Polish neighborhood), we used to have them. Yum. I remember them being like jelly doughnuts. So good.
