"Showing" at 7 weeks... Not necessarily a sign?

So... I am 7w1d today, and already feel/look like I'm showing.

This is my first babe, and I have been SLIGHTLY concerned it was twins because of a positive digi at 10dpo, and high-ish HCG level at 11dpo (47), and faster than 48 hour doubling time (though not totally abnormal for singletons from what I've read... 35 hours).

I know nothing at all says twins other than an u/s showing two or two coming out on/around the due date! But I still have a feeling, and now "showing" is making me even more skeptical!

Pic 2

FWIW, I've only gained about 2 lbs...

We'd welcome twins with open arms, but I can't lie... I know it will be very difficult.

Anyone else w/ multiples show this early? Have many mamas not shown this early w/ twins?

I guess everyone's body is different, and I'll just have to wait for the u/s to confirm. Scheduled for Thursday. for a healthy heartbeat (or more, if that's the way it's going to be!).

Thanks for your feedback, mamas!

Did you use any medications to stimulate ovulation? That can cause bloating and swelling early in pregnancy as the pregnancy hormones act on the ovaries.

Otherwise, it could be a sign. I didn't intend to tell people I was pregnant until I was about 12 weeks and it was no surprise to anyone when I announced I was pregnant. I worked with severely disturbed children at the time and I recall several of them knowing very early in the pregnancy, although they can be extremely intuitive and perceptive.

Hopefully you'll find out soon!

Thanks so much for commenting.

To answer your question, I had a completely unmedicated cycle.

I know that most, if not all, of it has to be bloat; my uterus can't be that high yet! But something's sure making the gut stick out.

I had intended to wait to tell work till 12ish weeks, but people MUST be wondering by now. I wonder if I should just 'fess up. Lol.

ETA: I do have a very short torso, and am short in general (5'2")... so maybe there's just not a whole lot of place for anything (including bloat) to go ('cept out!).

You look adorable Congrats and happy and healthy pg to you.

I did IVF so was on lots of meds and this was my 3rd pg but I wasn't showing like you are that early. When is your first u/s?

Good luck and I hope you get what you want

Those are cute pics, but without knowing how you looked before, we really can't say whether you "look pregnant".

Oh, I just had to respond to this part. It's so dangerous to make comments about anyone's weight that your co-workers probably wouldn't guess that you're pregnant based on your waistline unless they saw the baby kick. You might be surprised at the things that *do* tip people off though - you skip drinks after work or look a little green at lunchtime, or eat some saltines and all of a sudden, they're suspicious. I was once certain that a co-worker was pregnant because she came to work with her pants on inside out (I was right too - man, that poor woman was tired in the first trimester).

But rest assured that most people will wait for you to announce a pregnancy before they say anything about it, and the vast majority will be really understanding if you choose to wait until you really *must* to announce.

Lie down on your back and palpate starting at your pubic bone. The uterus is firm and round. At 7-8 weeks with twins my uterus was palapable, and about the size of a large orange or grapefruit. With a single baby I doubt you could feel anything at this stage. Good Luck!

I vote no...I showed very early on (and w/ my 1st pregnancy I was skinny). This time around I am showing around the same week and in the same way too. Plus some loose skin haha.

You do look cute in the pics! I saw them before and thought that then as well! We're the same height! Good luck on the u/s!

I wouldn't base everything on how big/small you are. At 14 weeks, I wasn't showing at all -- still wearing my regular clothes. (I'm a short momma, too - 5 foot.) I recall being able to feel my uterus about midway between my belly button and pubic bone --- way larger for that stage in the game, but I thought I was just 'very in tune with my body'. Ha!

Can you palpate your uterus??

Thanks for all the responses, mamas! I really appreciate it.

This is the most recent pre-pregnancy pic I was able to find of myself that shows my mid-section. It's from about 5 months ago, and I admittedly have put on about 5 pounds or so over the winter (before getting pregnant) since the pic was taken.

I have been trying to feel around for my uterus, and I feel like there is definitely something round above my pubic bone. This is my first, so I'm not sure what I'm feeling for, but the best way I can describe it is as something round and firm that makes me sort of imagine a sun rising up from the horizon. I feel like I can feel it better when I'm standing up than lying down, though.

Oh, who really knows, right? I have my ultrasound tomorrow at 7w3d... I suppose I will find out definitively then!

Thanks so much for your responses. In all this excitement - especially before you're out of the pregnancy closet - it's wonderful to have *someone* to talk to!

Oh, and MeepyCat - yeah, I guess you are right. My coworkers would have a lot of audacity to actually say something, regardless of whether I "look the part" or not. Thanks for the encouragement that I can keep it to myself for as long as I need to (as long as I don't have any other non-weight giveaways!)

Good luck with the scan. FWIW I could palpate my uterus with my second pregnancy at only 7 weeks too, but it was a singleton pregnancy. At least by the time I had a scan at 12 weeks anyway. My doctor at 9 weeks pregnant tried to search for the heartbeat because he was sure I must be much further along because my uterus was way up in my abdomen. Still no idea why that was.

Come back and let us know the head count tomorrow! Comparing those pre- and post-pregnancy pictures, you definitely look pregnant early.

I will definitely let you know! u/s is at 6:40 tonight.

I sent my "pregnant pic" to my mom (who lives 400 miles away) after telling her the baby is about the size of a blueberry now, and she replied "holy smokes, how many blueberries are IN there?"

I guess I'm at a slightly increased risk of twins, since (on my mother's side) my cousins are fraternal twins and my great uncle was a fraternal twin.

Lol.

Whatever will be will be! I just hope there's at least one healthy babe.

Thanks again for responding, lovely ladies!

Only one! :)

Looks like there's just one.

Babe is measuring ahead of where I was dating it (7 weeks 3 days based on O) at 8 weeks exactly (yesterday). Which would move my due date to 9/30, but I think I might just keep with my gut and stick to 10/4 (midwife said it was okay as long as the u/s dating was w/in a week of the date I came up with).

Heart rate good and strong at 177!

... so I guess the moral of this story is that I'm just getting fat? Lol.

Congrats on your beautiful baby!

You are *not* getting fat! You are growing a bambino (or blueberry) and that, my friend, takes a lot of work!

I had a woman at work tell me that she knew I was pregnant because "my rear end was spreading". I was absolutely flabbergasted - I had no idea what to say to that. The irony is that she had the biggest behind that I have ever seen in my life.

You will find out that a lot of people have no ability to edit themselves!

Congratulations!
