I am so excited. My first grader was accepted into the charter school of our choice and today is his last day in what we have come to refer to as "the classroom from hell"
He has a small small handful of friends he is giving out our phone number to, and saying his goodbyes, but he was more excited to make his way home than anything.
We are so new to homeschool, you may remember a couple of my other threads asking questions...and at some point I will probably do something even more "detached" from the mainstream, but it was a good starting point for us, and got him out of a bad situation quickly. Not to mention he has wanted to homeschool since before he ever started school in the first place, but I didn't have the "guts" to do it. (I now, of course have mommy guilt over that). I like that the Charter school does a lot of "hand holding" and you are guided a little on the way, but it is still so different from the classroom.
It feels good knowing that the two little siblings behind him will get a totally different approach to learning, and even my two older boys-one supposed to start High School next year are deeply considering homeschool as well. Not sure how all that's going to work out, but I"m game at this point. The freedom alone is a huge seller for me, and I can't wait to get things going
Tomorrow we meet his "teacher" or contact person with the school and go over all the fine details, pick curriculum (I'm still undecided) and all that stuff.
YAY!
