I was wondering how to go about getting your website to show up at search engines.

You can manually submit it. Go to each search engine page and start looking for where to submit for free.

I have a program called
Web Gold that I use to submit mine for me when needed, but those programs are pretty expensive so I think many people who don't find the time to do the submitting on their own will often hire that service out.

Also, the more links you have to your store out there, the better in terms of search engine crawling...

Search engine rankings are also affected by how many pages you have on your site, how many of your keywords show up in your content, and how many other sites are linked to yours.

You can also do pay per click with google adwords and overture.com

They can get costly if you are not careful - but they do get results.
