anyone do family child care?

I'm starting my family child care business soon, finalizing some of my paperwork - we have to be licensed to do child care in this state.

I was wondering if anyone here does it with a 'natural' slant. I have to develop a policy handbook and daily schedule of activities, and I am looking for some ideas from ladies who already have done this for years that know what works.

Plus, how do you advertise your business with a budget? I've got some flyers to put around the neighborhood, but what else could I do that you've found to work best? I'm interested in doing mostly before/after school/summer care, with one or two full-time/full-day pre-schoolers/toddlers.

thanks in advance!

I do, and have been doing licensed care for nearly 4 years and one year of care before that.
I've found word of mouth to be the best way to get clients, although I know some providers have had luck with craigslist.
I do belong to another mb that is just for childcare providers and can give you the link if you are interested.

Hi there

I run a home daycare in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is challenging, often very difficult, and frequently the best time of my life! Good luck on your journey.

My 'natural slant' involves using recycled craft materials whenever possible (a huge roll of newsprint that I got from a local newspaper lasts forever); feeding the children home cooked, often organic meals; supporting breastfeeding parents; outdoor play & exploration daily; as many wooden and non-plastic toys as possible; limited electronic time (max 1hr. tv daily); cleaning with natural products.

I've also found that word of mouth is the best advertising, but one of my clients read my poster ad at the local community centre and found us that way. I found my first client when I was out for a walk in the neighborhood! Having business cards on hand at all times is a good idea, you never know when you'll meet someone who's interested.

I hope you enjoy this most important work.
