We are going to be incorporating more smoothies into our diet and was hoping some of you could share some or your favorites

We just had one that was delicious:
1 Pear
1 orange
1 head green leaf lettuce (we used one small heirloom lettuce)
handful berries

YUM!

OK so...this may sound weird but it was sooo good: frozen bananas, frozen figs, capri sun. DH always makes 'em so i'm not sure what else he puts in them. A friend makes hers w/ peanut butter.

I work at a jamba juice and I own my own vita-mix..as soon as I read this the gears started turning!

My favorite at jamba juice is pomegranate juice with strawberries, peach chunks and mango chunks.

I also really like apple juice with frozen strawberries and bananas.

You can basically throw a head of lettuce or a handful of spinach into anything!

Kale and apple smoothies are also delicious.

I do nut milk, banana and whatever greens I have around a lot, that one's delish too.

Orange juice with either a frozen banana, frozen strawberries or frozen pineapple and a little coconut oil

Yogurt smoothies with frozen fruit

Almond milk and ice cubes made from frozen coffee

Chocolate almond milk with a frozen banana and a scoop of nut butter

I'm still trying to get into veggie smoothies...

Have you seen www.smoothie-handbook.com? It's got lots of good ideas. I have to keep sharing my green smoothies with 7yo DS! I'm in the kale section right now, but I'm trying to work my way into the cabbage section (hmmm...we'll see). They have non green sections as well - including chocolate.

Have fun!

I like to add a raw egg or two to my smoothies (from pastured, healthy, happy chickens!)

One of my favorites is one mango, one banana and a handful of spinach. I sometimes add berries to this as well.

My current favorite happens to be:

Banana
Apple
Blood orange
A head of romaine
Handful of whatever other greens there are
Blueberries
A few shavings of fresh ginger
A splash of plain coconut kefir (from Turtle Mountain)

This'll make enough for breakfast and a mid-morning snack.

I find that the tiny bit of ginger really works well with the greens, somehow making them more palatable.

Kale-apple

I think it's quite tasty, but this recipe doesn't say how good they think it is

A great smoothie I had yesterday:

a handful of soaked almonds
handful of pitted dates (depends how sweet you like it)
a whole avocado
water

We usually eat this one with a spoon. My kids love it. My 20 mo old had 4 helpings!

We own a blendtec and make smoothies everyday! My two favorite are these:

Caribbean bliss recipe here...www.naturallife101.com

Green chocolate (omg yum)
1 banana
swiss chard (as much as you like, if you don't use a lot you can't taste it)
about 1-2 tbsp raw cacao powder (unsweetened)
1.5 cup pineapple
1 c water
2 tsp maca powder
blend!

I found that if I freeze my fruit and then blend it it makes a creamy and cold smoothie.

maybe a silly question/thought...
I read a book on green smoothies that sounded amazing but the author said a vitamix blender was essential due to the speed the blade reaches and a regular blender won't work for green smoothies.
Is anyone else using a non-vitamix blender?
