If the Medela pumps didn't work for you...

Did you find another pump/brand that did?

Just wondering if I should bother trying some of the others.

I had bad luck with the Medela Pump In Style, even after getting the right sized horns. Bad luck with a Medela hand pump. I had good luck with the Medela Symphony. I might actually buy one if I need a new pump. I had bad luck with an Ameda Egnell hospital pump, but good luck with an Ameda hand pump. I have a Lansinoh I haven't tried yet, an electric. Curious to see.

And by bad luck...I mean I got little or no milk out. I got a lot more with the Symphony. Good luck!

Definitely make sure you have the right size horns. I couldn't get much with the Avent because the horns only come in one size. I switched back to a Medela but with larger horns and that solved my problem plus using some lube. I was told by a lactation consultant I didn't need the larger horns but it made all the difference in the world. I'm glad I didn't listen. Also, sometimes I can't get anything out with the pump if its not snapped together properly. I went several weeks recently with the faceplate not on tight and nearly lost my supply. I'm on domperidone now because of it. I have the PIS Advance and it seems to be less consistent than my first pump that I no longer have which was the orignal PIS. The original PIS never needed this much attention to make sure it was working properly. It just worked without question. But since I had a bad experience with the Avent pump not fitting me, the Medela is what I'm sticking with - especially after spending so much money on it. My DH would flip if I spent anymore money on pumps. I've spent $600+ on them in the last 2-3 years.

This is me, too.

I've tried the Symphony, the Lactina, the PIS and the Harmony (manual). The Lactina did a decent job, but the Harmony is just as effective (which is to say not very). The other two didn't do jack for me. I just know of a consignment store with a lot of different pumps and I was wondering if I should bother picking one of them up to try.

My Medela PIS didn't work for me at all, but, I love my Avent manual and my Avent Duo electric! I get about twice the output...and it doesn't hurt.
