Starting solids...

I have been feeding my 7 month old water kefir for a few weeks now and she has been doing well on that. Last week, she started drinking chicken bone broth and loved it. Since we have been doing that for a while without issues, I put some pureed chicken into her broth. I gave her maybe 2 tablespoons worth throughout the day. She did not react in anyway but she slept so poorly at night. I don't believe that is a sign of allergy or am I wrong? Do allergic babies need to start solids later than others? How do I know if her body is ready for food other than bm? I read the other start solids posts that I can find and am staying away from grains and veggies already, so what else do I need to do?

Thank you.

Why are you staying away from veggies? I think that cooked veggies and soft meats are great to start with. I wouldn't puree them though- just cook well so that they're soft enough for baby to gnaw on.

I also wouldn't read anything into the poor sleep- yet. If this is the first time she's had any "real" solid food in her belly, it might just be that her digestion is getting used to the new food. I would give it a few days to see if she does better with it (unless she starts showing other reaction symptoms of course.)

I am staying away from veggies and grains because I read one thread on what the mamas here would do differently if they were to do it all over again, and that's what someone said they would do. I think the rationale was because meats are mostly digested in the stomach, whereas veggies and grains are digested in the intestines meaning there needs to be a healthy dose of gut flora (I don't think dd has it and we are doing water kefir already). Do I have some things confused?

thank you again.

hello, i was wondering how progress was going w/your wee one and solids? my girl is so sensitive to solids too. we're nursing and i avoid corn, gluten, soy, dairy, nuts, tomatoes, eggs, chocolate. we tried chicken bone broth and had hit or miss results. then i tried lamb and that was totally out. prior to broth, i hadn't studied up as much and had been doing banana, applesauce, then sweet potato. avocado didn't work beef did ok for a week or two, then mucus poops began w/great cries of pain no matter what she ate. she then started reacting to everything so we're back to square one. i ordered some water kefir grains and will begin w/that. she's now 11 mos. old and loves food, so this has been a real trial. our first one was the same way and still gets eczema even at the age of 5 and on a very restricted diet.

i'd love to hear any insight or suggestions! thanks :)
