When does it feel real?

The nurse called me on the phone Monday to tell me the test was positive. I'm pretty sure she wasn't playing a joke on me or anything so I guess I am. Even though I suffered with nausea for the past few weeks and my boobs are sore and I've got the hick ups and a little belly...that could just be fat. I don't feel pregnant and I don't really believe her. I'm sure she is right but it just doesn't feel real to me yet.

At what stage did you feel the pregnancy was real?

I'm 11 weeks but was in denial for a long time before I finally got tested, maybe that's why it still doesn't feel real. Maybe it's more to do with the fact that I was told on the phone and haven't seen a doc yet or anything.

for me it gets really real when i can physically feel the baby from the outside.. not just kicking but like 'here is the head' .. that takes a while.. i just took a big step up on the feeling real ..scale.. when i heard the heartbeat.. an ultrasound also helps a lot.. finding out the gender usually made a difference for me too .. its a process.. i think it takes longer to feel real the first time, and since you JUST found out, it takes some time, give yourself a few weeks.. i have known for 6 weeks now and its just starting to feel like this is really happening..

For me it started to feel real when I felt the baby move. For me that was something like 22 weeks (many people feel it much earlier than that.) even then it was only a little real. And then it felt like a long time to really feel pregnant. I think only in the last couple of months does it really feel more real.

I kinda feel like I'm totally behind on things too. I'm 11 weeks but just found out. Most of you here found out much sooner and have had more time to let it sink in.

even letting it sink in doesn't really help. I'm 10 weeks and have known for 6 weeks now that I am... and I still have to keep reminding myself

Oh... that alcoholic drink looks good! Oh... right. I'm pregnant.

Oh... I feel so sick! Oh... right. I'm pregnant.

lol

Seriously.

When Cain was finally born, you hear me on the video say, "HI BABY! HI BABY! You're a BABY!" in the most surprised voice.

I really wasn't fully convinced it was a baby in there until he came out. It was just too bizarre and amazing to wrap my mind around.

When the kicking started, not just the little kicking where your not sure if it's gas or the baby, but the awesome kicking, where you can actually see your part of your babies body move when looking at your stomach. It's so freeking cool.

There is no doubt when it looks like there is something trying to literally kick it's way out. I think that's when my DH finally realized that, yes, there was seriously a baby in there and it was gonna come out.

A couple weeks after dc is here! Seriously, dh & I ttc for 6 years. Every single day we would look at each other & say "we're having a baby?!". When he arrived we would just look at him in surprise. I'd say he was 2 weeks old at least before I was certain it was all very real!

yeah, that's me. I couldn't get my head around it for the longest time. Right after my daughter was born I said to my sister "I can't believe it's really a baby!" Even after we got settled at home, I kept expecting someone to come along and take their baby back. It took me about 2 weeks to really grasp the fact that this was MY baby.

LOL! That was totally me. I had virtually no pregnancy symptoms the first time around, and that along with some emotional issues meant that I spent pretty much the entire pregnancy in total denial. I spent most of my birthing in total denial, too.

It wasn't until she came out that I said, "OH MY GOSH IT'S A BABY!!!!" I'd love to say we nursed or did skin to skin right away, but I think I just held her up and stared at her for a while like "ohmigosh, where did this COME FROM?!?!" I was so shocked to see another human, the midwives had to tell us to check the gender (and you'd think after 9 months of not knowing, we'd be curious)!

oh thank god its not only me that couldnt believe it til the baby was here with the first!

I felt sort of bad about it after he was here... that I had lived that entire pregnancy thinking it was just going to go away (not hoping it would, mind you... but I had had a 13 week loss with my first pregnancy and almost lost DS at 17 weeks due to almost hitting a deer... I was terrified he was going to be taken from me before I got to hold him)
