What does your child like to chew on?

DS (5, ASD, SPD) has been chewing on everything lately (well, everything except food ). Clothes, toys (poor Handy Manny's tools are all chewed up ), plastic, foil (caught that one today, actually).... it doesn't matter. It all ends up being chewed on. He has one green knobby chewy stick that he likes (but lost ) and an orange tubing thing (long tubing made of rubber like stuff he got from his last OT). The orange tubing he's chewing the heck out of so I have to keep cutting the destroyed parts off so he doesn't end up eating it.

So I need more suggestions..... what do your kiddos love to chew that's safe?

A likes to chew on: shoes, the rubber parts for headphones, the plastic covering on the top of my cookie cutters, his clothes, the spines of books...
Seriously I am really looking forward to the answers you get. The OT gave us 2 different types of chewy things but for some reason they dont hold a candle to the pleasure of chewing on everyday household items. I too am wondering what others do to calm the chewing rampage.

Glad to see I'm not alone! LOL! We've also had one of those infant water-filled circle teethers, which worked great until ds chewed a hole in it last weekend (but it did take him awhile so I still feel that was a worthy purchase). He also has a star vibrating teether, but doesn't like that one.

Another vote for headphones, here. And the usb cord for my camera, which now needs replacing. Also, t-shirts and socks (ew).

As for socially acceptable chewables, he likes the end of his watch band (a rubbery bit on the end of a velcro one) and the knobbly plastic things on the end of his hoodie straps.

On our blankets on pillows lately. It's worse if we wash the blanket, she goes into a chewing frenzy (kindof like she has to get her slobber scent back on the blanket) We have a "chew chew" that her old O.T. gave us, but she prefers the blankets as of now.

Brandon's are all relatively safe...he chews the heck out of his toothbrush, loves gum, and then bites holes in the sleeves and neck of his shirts ( : ).

Toothbrush, toys (I HATE that), clothes (oh the holes!), and fingernails are the most popular right now. I direct him to chew on carrots as often as possible. Sometimes he'll settle for a washcloth as well.

I order scented chew tubes (like 5 at a time) and necklaces to hang them on from The Therapy Shoppe.

The necklaces have a saftey latch, and they make it harder for DS to lose his chewy. These things have saved me a ton of money in new shirts. DS used to chew holes through the collar and sleeves of every shirt he owned.
