If you had a choice, big bed or multi-beds?

We currently have a full mattress. DH, DD and I just barely fit on it. We fit on it better when DD was small lol.

With another baby coming, I want to upgrade to a queen or king bed. But some people have told me pushing a twin up to the full would work (and put it as a better option??)

What have you done/will you do?

Wow, it's impressive that all three of you have been sleeping on a full size mattress! My husband and I alone can't even sleep comfortably on full, and I'm small. I'd definitely get a queen and then also sidecar either a twin bed for dd (depending on her age) and/or sidecar a crib for new baby.

My husband and I sleep comfortably on a queen with ds sleeping in the crib attached to the bed. It's quite cozy. ;-) When we have another, and if it is going to be the whole family sleeping together, we'll probably keep the queen and have a twin/toddler bed on one side, and the crib on the other. I would probably put the twin on a slightly lower level than our bed, because hopefully ds would be night-weaned by then. That way we have togetherness, but some space too...ya know?

I tend to agree w/the previous poster. If money is tight though you could start out with a twin pushed up to your full bed and get a Queen size later on if needed
I don't know how you managed to get all three of yourselves on a full mattress either...hubby and I haven't done that since we were dating twelve years ago

Budget is no worry for this one. I'm dying to get a big fancy bed. Dh and I are small people, but DD is getting way too big lol. She's a starfish.

I was just put off balance by the comments I received when I announced our fun trip of bed shopping.

And one thing that's bugging me...if I push two mattresses together, wouldn't that create a suffocation hazard?

I'd get a king.

It's so nice. ahhhh. Plenty of room for four.

We had a toddler and infant + us in a full for a while and it was very, very snug. Looking back, I'm not sure how I got any sleep!

You can push both beds together against a wall...or strap the boxsprings/frame together and cover the whole works with a larger size sheet.
Us people have to be creative sometimes

We have done the twin/queen thing. We put both box springs on the floor, then put the queen half on the twin box spring and half on the queen box spring so that the mattresses didn't gap so much. Then the two year old slept on the twin, DH slept next to her, then me, then the baby on the opposite edge.

When we buy a bed we are going to get a king.....someday.

We had a king when dd#1 was born and we coslept until she was close to 2, then intermittenly until she was 3.75, when dd#2 was born. Then we added a full bed to our room, just mattress and box spring on the floor in the corner, and dd#1 sleeps there, while dd#2 sleeps in the king with us. Ocassionally we all end up together in the king bed, but having 2 beds in our room is ideal for us. DD#1 mostly sleeps in the full bed, but either of us can sleep with her if she's scared or having a bad dream or just wants company. Hopefully here this summer (after dd#2 turns 2) we'd like to transition them to sleeping together and eventually even down the hall in a room of their own ... maybe someday (although I think I'll miss them :-). Really I think whatever you can work out that allows everyone to get good sleep, that's what you should do, good luck!

I know many, many people have had great success with having a twin next to their own bed but it never worked for us. Ds would crawl into our bed anyway every...single...night. lol

We have a king-sized bed and ds, now 6 1/2, still cosleeps...king seemed so big until we got it home and the rolling, flipping, kicking, side-ways sleeping boy got into it!! Still, that would be my vote!

If money's no issue, definitely get a king. We have one and it is my single most prized piece of furniture. It just makes bed time so easy and comfortable.

As for your longing for something fancy...be careful what you wish for and really try out different beds and ask people what they like about theirs before you drop a bundle. We used to have a super fancy, super expensive king set. Extra deep mattress and pillow top, the whole deal. Big brand name. Well, I could never ever find sheets that fit properly and by the 8 year mark it sagged horribly in the middle. The pillow top was always to poouffy to be comfortable and I actually worried about it being a suffocation risk when DS was little (we actually flipped it and slept on the underside for this reason!). We finally ditched it and got a plain jane xtra firm nothing fancy king and we're in heaven for a fraction of the cost.

King was one of the best investments we ever made. If money is not an object, I'd go big

I would just go for the King. But keep the full We got a king, and now I sleep in the Queen with DS and DD, until recently, slept with DH in the King. Now DD is off to her own bed, by choice. And we are transitioning DS to sleep with DH in the King. I'll be back in the Queen with the baby due this fall. We are all happier with more sleeping space! I agree with JessieBird to spend lots of time testing, and trying mattresses. Our King was actually a hand-me down from my Dad who found it uncomfortable. Our Queen we spent ages shopping for, DH teased me I was being ridiculous, but it is the perfect mix of firm and soft, and I still love it 10 years later! It is also not a pillow-top though, and for us co-sleepers (with nighttime diaper leaking too) that's a big consideration! Have fun shopping!

We are in exactly the same situation, and have been thinking the same thing! The 3 of us (plus 2 cats) share a full, comfortably, but I don't know about when we add another baby.

If money was not an issue we'd definitely go for a king. I've been trying to kind of get ds to sleep in his own bed (a twin mattress on the floor of our bedroom), but he usually only sleeps there for the first half of the night. And honestly, I think I would prefer one big family bed. We could put our mattress on the floor and push it up to the twin, but I'm kind of picky when it comes to beds. I like to make them up nice and neat in the morning, and a mattress on the floor would drive me crazy. The twin already does, but I just deal with it.

I had a full and we added a twin when ds2 was born. I REALLY wish we'd gotten a queen or king. Ds2 sleeps in the twin, and he doesn't sleep well if I move to the full during the night. It's tough to get comfy with him in the twin bed!
I can't just roll over, because they aren't the same height.
If we had one big bed, I'd be able to at least sleep on my back, or scoot over a little bit.

We have a king, and I'd even live a to have a double next to it!!! 3 dk's!!!! But i'd def opt for a king (actually my bed is two twin mattresses pushed together in a king frame with a king sheet, can't wait to get a king mattress!!!

if money isn't an issue, i'd go for a king! we have a queen and with dh and i plus a 4yr old and 8mo old it's too small for comfort. we're planning to start "the great mattress search" soon and upgrade to a king.

Seriously, if money is no issue get the King.

We just purchased our first King bed two weeks ago. HEAVENLY! We have a 21 month old and will have a newborn come August. This is perfect.

Of course, the second night we had it, DS decides he'll try out his toddler bed. He'll sleep in his bed that's pushed up against ours until early morning, then he climbs in to snuggle.

It's sooo nice to have the extra room. Especially since I'll have a big, pregnant belly soon.

We got our king when our 2nd was born and never looked back. We love it and it truly accomodates a great family bed, even when the kids are out of your bed it is nice to have the space.

if you push a twin up against the full it will be bigger than a king, so even if cost isn't an issue, i'd say go for that.

we got a twin xl and pushed it up against our queen and i'm SO glad that's what we did (even though dp had to remove an upstairs window to get the boxspring in). IT IS HEAVEN. dd and i sleep on the queen, and dp sleeps on the twin. she's a sprangly lil' starfish, but with all this space we can all sprangle out... it has made a world of difference in the quality of sleep for all of us.

we laid that grippy shelf liner stuff down across the box springs (the queen is split, so there are 3 box springs) to help keep the mattresses from spreading. not sure if that is what's doing it, but they haven't been gapping. no one is sleeping on the crack though.

they even make these foam pads to cover the gap (it's called an "insta-king")... only thing is they don't make sheets big enough to cover both mattresses (a king sheet will fit over 2 twins).....
