When Do Boys Get Better About Clothing!?!

Gesh. This is insane. My DS goes through pants like I do not know what. He has since he was 4 and he is just about 8. Meanwhile he has about 20 pairs of shorts, well cutoffs. His little brother has absolutely no hand me down pants from size 5 up. Meanwhile he eats shirts. And I literally mean chew on and eat. Yesterday he came downstairs with a pair of jeans with a hole in the knee that were 2 inches too short. Repairable for his brother so I made him change, I am beginning to think the only saving grace is that he is now growing faster then he can destroy clothing. He then came down in sweatpants that looked OK. Three hours later I ran into him at school while picking up his brother. He had a hole and stains on the sweatpants (pants are also napkins you know), a hole in the neck of his t-shirt and a big wet spot where he had been sucking on it. All this while shlepping around in school with a pair of snow boots because he forgot his sneakers. Sigh. Of course by the time he got home from school the pants had become shorts. Hole too big to repair.

I need extra long pants made from some indestructible nylon type material in a neutral color with an elastic waist. They do not exist. I have been everywhere. Right now I am trying to estimate how many more pants we need to get us through until summer and shorts weather. With his growth rate speeding up I hesitate to buy anything for next fall.

I don't know. My oldest is to the stage where he destroys them before he outgrows them so the hand me downs for his brother are getting fewer and fewer.

But I can't complain too much about holey knees and grass stains. To me, that means he's going out at recess and playing hard and having fun.

We are in the northeast. Grass stains from playing hard is one thing. But he lives in snow pants all winter. This is just inside destruction.

We do snow pants all winter as well. I guess I don't have any advice. How is he getting holes in them sitting in school?

Judging by my husband and his friends, never.

how about lands end? They will replace the pants if he wears them out.

Also Sears has their kidvantage program - same thing, they will replace the clothes for free if they wear out before they are outgrown.

They replace worn out clothing? Well I might have to place an order there if their pants are long enough. I can guarantee we will be taking them up on the replacements.

I have no clue how my DS manages to destroy clothing like he does. My younger one seems to be following in his footsteps.

My 5 year old is like this too! I think it must be common, because it's getting harder to find pants in his size at the thrift store. I swear he ends up destroying a pair of pants a couple times a week.

Ds1 still does this. I just spent some real money on his latest jeans as he is wearing levi's 514 (the slimmest fit I could find anywhere) 28X32. By the time they are in men's clothes it needs to stop. Dh wore 28X32 when we got married. I know Ian won't be wearing these jeans come spring. The only hand me downs we have from him are concert pants that get worn once for the concerts/recitals, he always grows before the next one.

My daughter destroys her pants, she blows the knees out because she sits on them all the time. Sears has a "wear out warranty" as part of their Kidvantage program. They will replace clothes that wear out as long as they are not outgrown. My brother was a chewer and he stopped around adolescence I think.

i don't know but I made the mistake of buying brand-new jeans at the beginning of the school year for DS1 (5 in Oct) and they are both ready to be cutoffs for summer. Have been since about Thanksgiving.
I absolutely refuse to buy this child brand-new pants again. I am NOT NOT NOT paying even the *sale* price of 22 bucks for two pair that I paid at the mall for this to happen.

If it comes right down to it though and I absolutely can't find anything I'd have him wear 2nd hand, I'll keep Sears in mind.

(so far just this week I've found 2 brand-new-looking pairs of jeans in his size! one blue one black. Desperately NEEDED)

Sounds just like my DS! Even down to the neutral colored, elastic waist pants that are so hard to find! I just wanted to say, though, that DS chewed holes in all his shirts until we tried the Feingold program...he quit within three days of starting that. Might be something to try?
