Out of Dishwasher Detergent...Can I use something else?

I only have a small amount of dishwasher detergent left. Of course the dishwasher is overflowing. Can I use part detergent and the rest baking soda or something?

I can get more this afternoon when I take my DD2 to get her cast. We are a one car family and I can’t go this morning.

It's 2 parts borax, one part baking soda and then a little vinegar in the rinse slot. It made spots on my dishes like crazy, but they were clean.

I don't have borax. I think I am going to have to wait till I go to the store.

I used to get spots with this mixture too (though I used only 1 part of borax to 1 part of baking soda). Now I add to this 1/4 of a part of coarse sea salt and 2-3 drops of lemon EO (you can use any other citrus EO you like, grapefruit is also very nice) and my dishes are spotless! This is not my invention though, I read somewhere here on MDC

Sounds like the mixture we use. It works great, but you must rinse the all the food off. Is the sea salt for scrubbing?
