Baby shower theme ideas?

My bff wants to throw me a baby shower.. on the one hand, I already have 4 kids, on the other, it has been 5 YEARS since I had an infant and this is our first girl... so things have changed

I want to have a baby shower theme that is a little different from the norm... baby showers I have been to recently had the fashion mom with a pregnant belly theme (like the cake and decor stuff is what I am talking about), or a pram/stroller thing.. I HATE onesies with a passion so don't even want to do those..

My bff suggested a skull with a pink bow on her head since I am kind of a zombie freak and well, kind of think my lo's ultrasound pics make her look like a zombie.. I get it- bff thinks it would be a hoot- but wondering if that might be TOO far out there for other people to get?

So anyway, i am looking for theme ideas.. for a June baby girl (if that makes a difference).

Oh! one of the best themes I ever saw was at Christmas time.. a friend decorated her Christmas tree in baby boy toys.. it was so cute and, imho very original.. but clearly seasonal.

Pinoikoi, I didn't realize you found out you're having a girl. Congratulations to you!! (We were on the One Thread together last summer.)

As for themes, I guess the skull thing depends on who you're inviting, and how fussy they are. I think it sounds cute. Other June ideas--garden, birds, or maybe retro-cutesie hearts and rainbows?

I remember you! Yep we are having a girl! I wasn't going to find out early, but dp demanded to come to the u/s... so we found out. Kind of glad we did, now I had no girly things at all!

that pirate theme is ADORABLE

what I was thinking from your first post is as long as its cute and not creepy it would work... that is SO cute. It would totally work.

that would also open up the door for some ADORABLE games... you know booty/booties... ah the creativity could abound!

And it would certainly be memorable for anyone who came!

I think if the invitations went out in the black and pink that some of the guests might buy wrapping paper along that light pink theme.. which is good since I was planning on lining kiddo's drawers with the left over wrapping paper (my 11yo's drawers are still lined with his baby shower wrap - one drawer is blue sheep, one is blue plaid, one has blue baby feet, etc) I think it is a fun family tradition.. if I went with zombies or Star Wars for a theme, I have no idea what people might use for wrapping paper and then sticking say, Jabba the Hut in her drawers might be a bit weird, kwim?

but yeah, I really like the Yoda thank you cards.. and if I sent them AFTER the party, well, the wrapping paper would no longer be an issue

pink or black and pink... they have some adorable black and pink wrapping paper at the store (striped with a black ribbon with pink polka dots on it) and I'm waiting for a reason to buy some lol... probably for DDs birthday... she practically lives in her pink and black TuTu that she got for Christmas.

Actually I think I may get that pink pirate party stuff for her party! LOL... though Im not sure cuz shes really into princesses this year... when she was little I was against putting her in too much pink and focused on purples (i love purple) and yet shes decided pink and either sparkly or fluffy is her favorite thing ever lol.

I like color themes more than item themes. A yellow party is always fun, and things don't have to be cutesy/cheesy, AND you can reuse the items later without having 20 plastic baby bootie center pieces. I guess the whole baby theme is just too cheesy for me - if i went with an item, it would be cupcakes, or gardening (your little sprout!), or books (everyone could bring their favorite kids book!), or mexican food, or something I like. The party is for me, right?

Inspiration sites:

I love this site for party ideas: http://www.oneprettything.com/?s=baby+shower&st=c ( i searched baby shower, but if you do just 'party' you will get back even more).
Search Etsy for invitations, and find a theme from there: http://bit.ly/dBgZ1Y (I like this nest one!)
A well done blog devoted to party themes from around the web: http://www.hostessblog.com/category/...-shower-ideas/

not in my eyes... a baby shower is about the baby.

Every baby shower I've been to has been about the mom, and celebrating motherhood.
