grass fed meat buying clubs?

is anyone here part of a meat buying club?

my friend raises pastured poultry, pork, beef, lamb and eggs and is looking into starting regional buying clubs so he can reach a larger geographic area.

i told him i'd ask around to try to find out more about how it works.

i mean he knows how it works in terms of taking orders and delivering product...i'm just looking to find out what people like about buying this way (rather than going to a farmers' market or natural food store).

thanks!

Usually the big draws would be price, availability of cuts or the farmer itself (ethics, locale, etc.).

I had the opportunity to join one recently, but it turned out that the price was the same as I was already paying, selection wasn't as good and the other considerations were all comparable to what I already get (local, pastured, etc.).
