Prehistory - Hominids

We've been going through the Usborne World History book, and Colwyn is really interested in prehistoric man. We've watched a few videos on the Science and National Geographic channels, and looked at all the internet links. We've read a few picture books that tie in. But I think he would really like to do something hands on, I just don't know what. We've done the usual paleontology/archaeology activities, but I'm looking for something fun related to hominids and prehistoric people.

Any really cool activities we could try?

Thanks!

Do you have a big park or woods nearby? Can you try being hunter-gatherers? I think, a lot of times the protein component would have come from small mammals and insects. esp for small bands. Go "hunting" (maybe with a camera) see how many lizards, frogs, squirrels, birds you can bag. Collect berries for the clan (also with a camera if necessary).
