Diaper pails - what do you use?

We currently keep a 5 gallon bucket downstairs and one upstairs to catch the diapers. Lately it seems like the pee stink is getting stronger sooner. I really don't want to buy anything high dollar, but what do you use to contain the stink?

This has worked well so far (http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/prod...113043&RN=1020). We use a trash bag in it so I can take the bag out and turn it over and dump dipes into wash. DS is 9mo but doesn't crawl so he doesn't really go near it. I don't really smell it much, not pee, but sometimes poop. We have a deoderizing disk under the lid but I don't think it's really doing anything (well I do smell it when I open the lid).

We just use a flip top garbage can from Walmart, It was ceap & contains the smell.

and PlanetWise liner. We did have some minor stink issues but a Monkey Doodlz Pail Pals deodorizing disk solved that.

I hear open pails (eg a laundry hamper) actually smell less than closed, but I haven't tried this myself.

I use 5gal buckets w/ lids. I squirt a bit of bacout in the bottom & don't have any smell problems.

I put the lid on tight enough that DD can't get it off, but still a little open for air flow.

After I dump dirty diapers in the wash I wipe the pail down w/ a mix of 50/50 vinegar & water w/ a little tea tree oil.

We use a pop up lid trashcan from Walmart.

We just use a bucket, and yeah. It gets STINKY, especially because we're on limited water, so have a TON of diapers (flats) and only wash once a week.

Our solution? We've been putting it outside the back door. Frozen diapers don't stink.

Once spring hits, though, we're going to have to figure out a real system.

We have a Diaper Champ. It has a revolving plunger so it does not open until you want to get the diapers out. The smell is really contained. It doesn't have as much capacity as I'd like however.

I have an inexpensive flip top trash can, lined with a pail liner (planetwise).

So, I was considering getting a diaper pail from BRU or something...but can reusable liners be used in all of them? So many of them assume you're using disposable ones...but if I'm going to wash my diapers, then I might as well wash the liner.

Another question- for any of you who do a mix of CD and disposables... do you have two pails? Do you use something like the diaper genie for the sposies?

We just use a hanging pail liner, like this, without an actual pail. It hangs on the doorknob of DS room, next to the changing table. Because it's open at the top, there's no stink - really! We were advised that closed pails cause more stink, and I think that's true. This bag does have a little fabric patch sewn in that you can put some essential oil on, but we've never had the need to do so.

we use a 5 gallon bucket and i add vinegar to the bucket after it gets emptied. that has seemed to work for us.

We've been above freezing several days in a row now! Well, it might not have QUITE reached freezing today, but the sun was so warrrrrrrrrrrm...

I'm not letting myself be optimistic, though. It's winter until the Kuskokwim starts to turn to mush .

We did/ will likely do a combo again but we don't use many maybe 1-2 at night but that about it the rst if used are on the go. We jsut tend to take it right outside to the big curb sized garbage can. ot it goes in the regular kitchen trash and gets tossed with the regular garbage.

I just use a simple plastic Rubbermaid foot pedal trash can that I've had for about 10 years. It's served multiple purposes over the years. At times it's been a trash can, then a laundry hamper (washed beforehand, of course LOL) , and now a diaper pail. I just have a basic pail liner that I bought. I think it's made by the Natural Baby Company, but I am really not sure. It is simple and serves it's purpose.

rhiOrion - I use a mix of cloth and disposables and I just throw the disposables away in a regular trash can. If it's a really bad diaper, I'll tie it up it in a bag from the grocery store before throwing it away to help contain the smell. I will sprinkle some baking soda in the trash can that holds the diapers in my DS's room when it's empty and as needed if it gets stinky before I empty it. We empty the trash cans enough that unless there's a bad case of poopies, the stink doesn't build up much.

I haven't read all the comments so sorry if this is a repeat! I just use a big plastic garbage can with a lid that's supposed to go up with a pedal. When we started getting stink issues I'd just spray the inside with vinegar after I took out the liner bag and let it air out for awhile. That seemed to work!

I'm new to CD! But I had an old rubber can. I wash it with VERY HOT WATER and vinegar. As soon as my little guy is out of CD I will not feel bad about getting rid of it.

OH and I try to have him poop on the potty. So that helps.

I keep the wet ones in a zip-top wet bag. The poopy ones I wet pail in a bucket in the bathroom.
